Nairobi County Blames Treasury for Late Payment of Staff August Salaries

Nairobi City County has blamed the National Treasury for the late payment of the August 2025 salaries.

In a circular published on September 9, Nairobi County Secretary and Head of Public Service, Godfrey Akumali, said the Treasury has not disbursed the equitable share revenue hence the August salaries will be delayed.

“This is to notify all staff that the payment of August 2025 salaries will be delayed due to the late release of the equitable share disbursement from the National Treasury,” reads part of the circular.

Akumali said the County is aware that workers should be paid on time to meet their personal needs.

He stated that they are actively following the issue, and the workers will be paid immediately the allocation from the Treasury hits the County’s bank accounts.

“We fully appreciate that timely salary payment is critical in meeting personal and family obligations. Please be assured that Management is according this matter the highest priority and is actively engaging the relevant offices to ensure that salaries are credited to your accounts immediately upon release of the funds by the National Treasury,” he said.

Additionally, Akumali apologized for the delay adding that the County appreciates the patience exercised by the staff.

He affirmed that the County would work round the clock to ensure the matter is resolved as soon as possible.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and greatly value your patience. dedication, and continued commitment to service during this period. We remain confident that this matter will be resolved promptly. Thank you for your understanding and unwavering support,” he added.

The letter was signed by Akumali and copied to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Deputy Governor James Njoroge and County Executive Committee Member in charge of Finance and Economic Planning, Charles Kerich.
