President William Ruto has revealed government plans to address cancer cases across the country following the struggles of Kenyans living with the disease.

Speaking on November 20th, 2025, during the State address in Parliament buildings, Ruto said the government is looking forward to strengthening financial protection for cancer treatment.

He said the Social Health Authority (SHA) will contribute to easing the burden as the current package will be boosted from Ksh 550,000 to 800,000 starting from December 2025.

“Social Health Authority will enhance the cancer benefits package from the current Ksh 550,000 to Ksh 800,000 effective December 1, 2025,” Ruto said.

What Made the Government to Raise SHA Package Fee for Cancer Patients

The president said this move aims to bring relief to the raising cost of cancer treatment and patients can be able to access quality treatment.

Patients will therefore get treatment and return home without facing financial hardships as it is currently.

“This enhancement, responds to the raising cost of sustained cancer care and ensure that patients can access quality uninterrupted treatment without facing financial hardships,” the President added.
