Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye was sent off for striking teammate Michael Keane on November 24, 2025.

This was just 13 minutes into the Toffees’ remarkable Premier League win at Manchester United.

The incident was sparked when Gueye, who misplaced a loose pass towards Keane in the penalty area to give the ball away, began berating his team-mate.

Gueye was irate and raised his left hand to slap Keane, with referee Tony Harrington immediately producing a red card, which was confirmed by VAR Paul Howard.

He wrote on Instagram: “I want to apologise first to my team-mate Michael. I take full responsibility for my reaction.

I also apologise to my team-mates, the staff, the fans and the club.

What happened does not reflect who I am or the values I stand for.

Emotions can run high, but nothing justifies such behaviour. I’ll make sure it never happens again.”

Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer

Newcastle team-mates Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer were sent off for fighting each other on Saturday, April 2, 2005, in the Barclays Premiership defeat to Aston Villa at St James’ Park.

The Magpies were already 3-0 behind and down to 10 men as the wheels came off for Graeme Souness’ side.

The hosts never recovered from Juan Pablo Angel’s opener, and Gareth Barry added a second from the penalty spot after Steven Taylor handled on the line, for which he was sent off.

Barry added a third from the spot after Darius Vassell was fouled by Stephen Carr before the midfield duo were dismissed for violent conduct, squaring up to one another and continuing their disagreement off the pitch and the match ended 3-0 to Villa.

Bowyer and Dyer offered apologies after the shameful end to the match.

The England midfielders flanked flint-faced manager Graeme Souness at his post-match press conference, Bowyer leading the way after being invited to by Souness.

He said: “I would just like to apologise to the fans, the chairman, the managing staff, all the players and everybody that is connected to Newcastle, my family and everybody that witnessed what happened today on the football pitch.

I am sincerely sorry.”

Dyer added: “I will touch on the same as well.

I would like to apologise to my team-mates, the manager, the chairman and the fans, and everyone connected with the club as well.

“We are teammates, and we have disagreements, but we should not be fighting in front of 50,000 people. I am deeply sorry for it, especially because it is a crucial stage of the season.”

Ricardo Fuller and Andy Griffin

Stoke City’s 2008/2009 Premier League campaign produced one of the club’s most talked-about flashpoints when striker Ricardo Fuller and captain Andy Griffin were involved in a dramatic on-field altercation.

The incident unfolded on 28 December 2008 during a tense match against West Ham United at Upton Park, where Stoke were struggling to find their rhythm after falling behind early.

Tensions rose when Fuller confronted Griffin moments after Stoke conceded.

The striker was visibly frustrated, believing the skipper had been at fault for West Ham’s opening goal.

What began as a verbal exchange quickly escalated in the full glare of thousands of supporters and live cameras.

In a shocking moment, Fuller slapped Griffin across the face, an act that left teammates stunned and the referee with no choice but to issue an immediate red card.

Fuller’s dismissal reduced Stoke to ten men for the remainder of the match, compounding their struggles on the pitch.

Despite the dramatic scenes, the fallout behind the scenes was surprisingly calm.

Fuller and Griffin both apologised soon after the match, with manager Tony Pulis describing the incident as a “heat-of-the-moment misunderstanding.”

The club opted not to prolong the matter, and Fuller remained a key figure for Stoke throughout the season.

Mings and El Ghazi

Mings was furious with the winger for failing to track back as the Hammers broke in a counterattack.

But the Dutchman was having none of it, and the pair proceeded to engage in a heated argument.

El Ghazi then appeared to try and headbutt Mings before the pair were separated by midfielder Marvelous Nakamba.

VAR then had to check whether there should be a red card involved, but it was not deemed to be a sending-off offence.

Referee Mike Dean had a word of warning for both before the match carried on.

Carragher and Alonso in Heated On-Pitch Clash During 2009 Liverpool Match

Liverpool teammates Jamie Carragher and Xabi Alonso were involved in a brief but fiery confrontation during a Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion on 17 May 2009.

The incident occurred in the second half after a defensive lapse on Liverpool’s right side, when Carragher shouted at right-back Álvaro Arbeloa for what he felt was poor positioning.

Alonso, unhappy with Carragher’s aggressive tone, immediately intervened and confronted him, leading to a tense face-to-face exchange between the two senior players.

Other Liverpool players quickly stepped in to diffuse the situation, and the match continued without further disruption.

Manager Rafael Benítez later dismissed the altercation as a sign of the squad’s competitive spirit, while both Carragher and Alonso downplayed the disagreement after the game.

The moment has since become one of the memorable flashes of intensity within a highly driven Liverpool side chasing a strong finish to the 2008–09 season.
