Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has warned police officers attached to VIPs against working with goons.
Speaking on Wednesday, November 26, in Kasipul Constituency in Homabay County, Murkomen said certain police officers have taken sides in political activities, which is against the law.
He was responding to questions over the withdrawal of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s security detail.
Murkomen confirmed that Natembeya’s security has been withdrawn over allegations of involvement in political campaigns.
He warned that police officers who are working with goons will be removed from office.
The CS said some officers are using the positions and their teams to support VIPs, risking their own jobs.
“There have been cases where police officers attached to VIPs have misused their positions, together with their teams, to the point of their own detriment. If any police officer walking with a VIP is working with goons, we will get them removed from service,” Murkomen said.
Murkomen said being attached to a VIP does not make police officers part of their campaign team.
He stated that such officers will be dismissed and punished for such a mistake.
“I want to warn all police officers that being attached to a VIP does not make you part of their campaign or unlawful plans. Dismissal action will be taken against you, and you will be discharged from the service,” he added.

Meanwhile, Natembeya said there was no court or official communication regarding the withdrawal.
He stated that the decisions endanger his life and disrupt his normal duties as governor.
“There is no court order, no disciplinary communication, and no official explanation for this decision. It not only endangers my safety but also interferes with the smooth execution of county duties,” he said.
