Backlash Forces Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Activist to Apologize Over Tribal Remarks

Gen Z Baddie, a Linda Mwananchi activist, has apologised after facing backlash over remarks she made about President William Ruto’s daughter’s wedding in Kilgoris.

She issued the apology on Sunday, August 9, 2026, after her comments sparked criticism online.

The activist said she had reflected on the remarks and admitted that her words were inappropriate.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to Kenyans and to everyone who felt offended or misrepresented by comments I recently made regarding Kilgoris and the President’s daughter’s wedding,” Gen Z Baddie said.

What Gen Z Baddie Said

The controversy followed comments the activist made while discussing the wedding held in Kilgoris on Saturday, August 8.

In the video, she questioned aspects of the ceremony and made remarks about people from the area.

She also commented on the wearing of wigs before turning to politics and the position taken by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gen Z Baddie referred to remarks allegedly made by former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala regarding Gachagua’s political position and support for the Linda Mwananchi movement.

She also criticised President Ruto and said she believed he would face political challenges in the future.

“We do not want him to get the country easily. We want to go into battle -person against person, eye for an eye,” she said.

Gen Z Baddie said she removed the video to prevent further harm and offence.

She explained that she had taken time to consider the impact of her comments, especially because she speaks from a public platform.

“I have taken time to reflect on the conversation, and I acknowledge that my words were inappropriate. For that, I am genuinely sorry,” she said.

Her comments came after she criticised the wedding held in Kilgoris on Saturday, August 8.

Gen Z Baddie also made remarks touching on political figures and communities, which drew criticism from social media users.

Activist’s Mentors Advised Her

Gen Z Baddie said members of Linda Mwananchi reached out to her following the controversy and advised her on the need to communicate responsibly.

She singled out Pollyne Owoko, Pauline Njoroge and Abbie Zuena for guiding her through the situation.

“My mentors within Linda Mwananchi have reached out to me, spoken to me candidly and advised me on the importance of responsibility, especially when speaking on matters that touch on communities and public figures,” she said.

She thanked Owoko, whom she described as her mother figure within the movement, as well as Njoroge and Zuena for correcting and guiding her.

“I am particularly grateful to my mother figure within the movement, Pollyne Owoko, my big sisters, Pauline Njoroge and Abbie Zuena, for taking the time to guide me, correct me and remind me that growth also means being willing to listen,” she added.

Gen Z Baddie Clarifies Apology

While apologising for the offence caused, Gen Z Baddie maintained that she did not believe expressing an opinion was wrong.

She said her apology should not be interpreted as an admission that raising an opinion or starting a discussion was itself a mistake.

“That said, I want to clarify that this apology is for the unintended offence caused by my comments, and not an admission that expressing an opinion or raising a point of discussion is itself a sin,” she said.

She added that she remains committed to learning and becoming more careful in her public communication.

“I remain committed to learning, growing and being more mindful of how I communicate, especially given the platform I have and the responsibility that comes with it,” she said.

She then apologised to those who felt offended and thanked people who approached her privately.

“To everyone who felt offended, I am sorry. I hear you, and I appreciate the guidance from those who took the time to speak to me privately,” she said.

She ended her message with a commitment to learn from the controversy.

“We live, we learn, and we do better.”
