HELB offers Jielimishe Loan to employed students pursuing Professional Courses, Higher National Diploma, Bachelors, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, or PhD degrees in Kenya.

Jielimishe loans are awarded per year and paid directly to the approved institutions of higher learning.

Meanwhile, the agency provides this financing product specifically for salaried learners, allowing them to continue their education while still in employment.

In turn, the initiative is designed to ease the burden of tuition fees and enable working students to focus on advancing their academic qualifications.

HELB Jielimishe Loan Offers Flexible and Affordable Financing

To begin with, HELB outlines several features that make the Jielimishe Loan accessible and practical for employed students. These include:

  • Quick loan processing
  • Competitive interest rate of 10% per year
  • Flexible repayment periods of 12–48 months (72 months for public servants)
  • Convenient and easy monthly check-off repayments
  • Borrow up to 90% of programme fees, up to a maximum of Kshs. 600,000
  • Affordable credit life insurance policy

As a result, working students can manage their education costs more effectively while still meeting their financial obligations.

Targets Employed Students Across Key Sectors

In addition, HELB clearly defines the categories of employees who qualify for the Jielimishe Loan. The programme targets individuals working in:

  • Civil service (ministries, counties, National Police Service, Kenya Defence Forces)
  • Public commissions such as TSC, JSC, PSC, CAJ, SRC and CRA
  • Parastatals including KRA, NSSF, NHIF, NTSA, KWS, KFS and KPA
  • Public universities
  • Selected private companies approved by HELB

Therefore, the loan reaches a wide range of salaried professionals.

However, applicants working in private companies need to confirm whether their employers meet HELB’s eligibility criteria.

Application Requirements for jielimishe Loan

Furthermore, the agency requires applicants to submit specific documents through its online platform.

These documents help verify both academic qualifications and employment status. They include:

  • An admission letter from a recognized university or college in Kenya
  • Certified copy of the last academic certificate
  • Three months’ latest payslips certified by the employer
  • Contract appointment letter (for contract staff of at least two years)
  • Certified copy of National ID
  • Certified copy of KRA PIN
  • Certified copies of National IDs for two employed guarantors
  • A recent coloured passport-size photograph

Consequently, applicants must ensure that all documents meet certification requirements before submission.

Jielimishe Loan Repayment Begins Immediately

Finally, HELB states that repayment starts immediately after disbursement to the training institution.

Borrowers repay the loan through a monthly check-off system arranged with their employer, which ensures consistency and convenience.

In conclusion, the agency confirms that employed students can still access funding through the Jielimishe Loan.

The programme provides a reliable financing option that allows salaried individuals to upgrade their qualifications while continuing to work.
