Share
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has dismissed a notice circulating online that claims applications for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) loans for the 2026/2027 academic year will open on July 15, 2026.
In a statement, HELB clarified that the notice is fake and was not issued by it.
It urged students and members of the public to ignore the document and verify all information through its official communication channels.
HELB Warns Students Against Fake Notice
The fake notice, dated June 28, 2026, claimed that first-time and subsequent KMTC HELB loan applications would open on July 15, 2026.
However, HELB has dismissed the document and warned students against relying on unverified information.
“The KMTC loan application notice circulating online is FAKE and was not issued by HELB.”
The board advised students to confirm any announcements through its official customer care number and verified X account.

Students Urged Only to Use Official Communication Channels
HELB reminded students that its official contact number is 0711 052 000 and that official updates are shared through its verified X account, @HELBpage.
The board also cautioned the public against using another phone number appearing on the fake notice.
“Always verify all communication through HELB’s official channels only: 0711 052 000, X @HELBpage.”
It further clarified,”Please note: 0711 052 400 does NOT belong to HELB. Do not use this number for any HELB enquiries or services.”

Portal Opening Depends on Student Placement
The fake notice emerged as many KMTC students wait for official communication on loan applications.
According to HELB, the opening of the first-time application portal depends on the completion of student placement by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
This means students should wait for an official announcement from HELB before submitting applications.
Meanwhile, HELB has already opened subsequent loan applications for continuing students for the 2026/2027 academic year. The applications opened on June 1, 2026.
The Board Warns Against Misinformation
HELB encouraged students to stay alert as fraudsters continue to circulate fake notices targeting loan applicants.
The board urged learners to verify information before acting on it to avoid falling victim to misinformation.
“Stay vigilant. Verify before you trust.”
