HELB Loan Repayment: How Kenyans Living Abroad Can Pay Their Loans

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has extended the subsequent loan application deadline to September 21 2026 allowing those who had not applied to apply.

In a statement dated September 7 2026, HELB announced that the deadline has been moved to September 21 2026 to give time to the applicants who had no chance to apply.

“Attention All Continuing Students. The HELB Subsequent Loan Application deadline has been EXTENDED to 21st September 2026,” HELB said.

The extension of the deadline comes after the initial application deadline which was in August 31 2026, this will enable many eligible students to apply before the new deadline.

Students To Apply Before New Deadline

“Whether you got caught up with network issues or just needed a little push, this is your moment. Don’t let this extra window pass you by,” said HELB.

Additionally, the subsequent loan is intended for continuing students in universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions who have previously benefited from HELB funding.

Eligible applicants are required to submit their applications through the HELB student portal or the HELB mobile application where they can also track their loan application status.

Un addition, HELB has encouraged eligible students to apply early and take advantage of the new deadline to avoid last minute delays.

HELB Funding

HELB plays a key role in financing higher education in Kenya by providing loans and scholarships to students who are pursuing tertiary education.

These loans help beneficiaries meet tuition costs and other education-related expenses, with repayment beginning after graduates secure employment in accordance with the HELB’s repayment guidelines.

This latest extension is expected to benefit students who may have faced challenges such as delays in accessing the application portal, incomplete documentation, or other personal circumstances that prevented them from meeting the original deadline.

Students who are yet to apply have until September 21, 2026, to complete their applications through the official HELB digital platforms before the application window closes.
