The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) is officially inviting loan applications from KMTC students who are pursuing Certificate and Diploma courses for the 2026/2027 academic year.

HELB says the application window is open from August 21 up to September 30, and KMTC students have been encouraged to apply.

Eligible KMTC Students are required to submit their applications before the stated deadline; this is according to a statement by HELB to the KMTC students.

“The HELB 2026/2027 KMTC Loan Application is now open for students pursuing Certificate and Diploma courses. Application window: August 21- September 30, 2026,” KMTC said.

Application Requirements

Eligible applicants are required to register and submit their details online via the HELB student portal and select the KMTC loan.

They are then supposed to follow the application instructions that are provided and provide all the loan requirements.

After finishing the application, they are to submit it, and to ensure the application has been received, one must receive an application number through email or SMS as confirmation.

This comes after KMTC confirmed that students will start receiving HELB after President William Ruto promised that he will ensure KMTC students get HELB.

Government Funding

KMTC students have been relying on their own funding to continue with their studies because they had no government funding.

The move is expected to bring relief to thousands of students who have long struggled to finance their studies due to limited access to structured government funding programmes.

This is after students have started joining universities where they were placed, as they continue to apply for HELB to help finance their studies.

Another important detail is that students must have their official KMTC admission letter before submitting their application.

They are also required to provide their National ID, KCSE and KCPE index numbers, parents’ or guardians’ details, guarantor information, and bank or M-PESA details
