CBK Reveals Banks With Lowest Loan Interest Rates

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has released its latest data on commercial banks’ lending rates, highlighting where Kenyans can access the cheapest loans.

In the report published in March 2026, the Central Bank ranked 38 banks based on their average lending rates, using the March 2026 figures.

The data shows a wide variation in the cost of borrowing across the banking sector.

According to the CBK, Citibank N.A Kenya offered the lowest lending rate at 10.80 %, making it the cheapest lender during the period under review.

It was followed by Stanbic Bank Kenya Limited at 11.75 % and Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited at 11.87 %.

Other banks that ranked among the most affordable lenders include Habib Bank A.G Zurich, which posted a lending rate of 12.66 % and Guardian Bank Limited at 13.50 %.

Mid-tier lenders such as Bank of Baroda Kenya Limited and ABSA Bank Kenya PLC recorded lending rates of 13.56 % and 13.75%.

Consolidated Bank of Kenya Limited has a lending rate of 14.00% while Paramount Bank Limited rates stood at14.01 %.

Prime Bank has a leading rate of 14.08, followed by Gulf African Bank Limited with 14.09 %, Bank of India at 14.13 %, and Diamond Trust Bank Kenya Limited at 14.24 %.

CBK Banks With Lending Rates Above 15%

Among the larger lenders, Equity Bank Kenya Limited recorded a lending rate of 15.00 %, while KCB Bank Kenya Limited stood at 15.02 %.

NCBA Bank Kenya PLC posted 15.28 %, with Co-operative Bank of Kenya Limited close behind at 15.42 %.

Other banks in this category include UBA Kenya Bank Limited at 15.67 % and National Bank of Kenya Limited at 15.72 %.

Family Bank Limited and Sidian Bank Limited recorded lending rates of 15.92 % and 15.37 %, respectively.

Banks With Highest Lending Rates

On the higher end, HFC Limited recorded 17.09 %, Access Bank Kenya PLC recorded 17.83 %, while SBM Bank Kenya Limited posted 17.65 %.

Credit Bank PLC lending rates stood at 17.97 %.

Bank of Africa Kenya Limited topped the list with the highest lending rate of 18.57 %.

Overall, the CBK data shows that the average lending rate across the banking sector stood at 14.70 % in March 2026.
