Court Halts KCB Executive Rosemary Chemutai’s Burial After Husband’s Challenge

The court has temporarily stopped the funeral and burial of KCB executive Rosemary Chemutai after a dispute between family members and her husband over who should plan her burial.

Husband to the late Chemutai moved to the Milimani Chief’s Magistrate Court looking to stop plans to her burial after saying that the family failed to involve him in the planning.

Kevin Kimatu, husband to the deceased says that he was not involved in any way in the burial plans for his wife saying that he is the father to their four children.

Kevin told the court that he wants to be declared in charge of making decisions regarding his wife’s burial and funeral.

He added that he wants his wife to be buried at his ancestral home in Matasia in Ngong Sub-County in Kajiado County.

This decision made by the court has made all burial plans for Chemutai to stop with family saying that they would love for Chemutai to be buried well with her children and husband allowed to mourn her peacefully.

“This is certainly not the situation any family would wish to find itself in while grieving the loss of a loved one,” the family said.

Chemutai died on August 21, 2026 and was the head of data protection within the Risk Division of KCB.

Funeral Dispute

The late Chemutai and her husband were married in 2013 and they were separated before her death however her husband says that they had reconciled and she had agreed to return home.

Members of her family had indicated that her body will only be released to her sister and would be buried in their home in Kericho county.

The husband claims he was not aware of those arrangements because he was left in the dark.

The dispute has placed the family’s funeral plans on hold as the court considers competing claims over the arrangements.
