DCI Reveals New Details After Doctor Shot Dead After Requesting Uber in Nairobi

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into the fatal shooting of Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, who was shot on the morning of Wednesday, July 29, in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.

The agency said it had already deployed homicide detectives and forensic experts to establish what happened and identify those responsible for the killing.

In a statement, the DCI conveyed its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, promising a professional and impartial investigation.

“The DCI conveys its deepest condolences to the family, relatives and loved ones of the deceased during this profoundly difficult time. We stand in solidarity with them in their grief and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to conducting a thorough, impartial and professional investigation aimed at establishing the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and bringing those responsible to justice.”

DCI Process the Crime Scene

The DCI said police officers, assisted by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) detectives, responded immediately after receiving the report.

According to the agency, officers secured and processed the scene, collected forensic evidence for analysis, and interviewed witnesses.

Detectives also visited the medical facility where Mutiso had been taken after the shooting.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mutiso had requested an Uber ride shortly before the incident.

The DCI said she sustained fatal gunshot injuries under circumstances that are still under investigation.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had requested an Uber service for transport when she sustained fatal gunshot injuries under circumstances that remain the subject of active investigations.”

Homicide Detectives Take Over Investigation

The investigation has now been taken over by a team of homicide detectives from the DCI Headquarters, supported by forensic experts.

The detectives are pursuing several investigative leads, including following up on persons of investigative interest, as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

“Detectives are pursuing all critical investigative leads, including following up on persons of investigative interest, to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all those responsible are identified and brought to justice.”

Public Urged to Avoid Speculation

The DCI urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continue, warning that speculation could interfere with the case.
