Dedan Kimathi and Kisii Universities Announce Scholarship Opportunities

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) and Kisii University have announced postgraduate scholarship opportunities for Kenyans seeking to pursue studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The scholarships fall under the Higher Education Science and Technology (HEST) Phase II Project, which aims to improve access to quality higher education, training and research in STEM fields.

Kisii University Offers 10 Master’s Scholarships

Kisii University has invited applications for 10 Master’s scholarships under the HEST Phase II Project. The university has allocated the opportunities across four programmes:

  • Information Technology (IT) – 2 scholarships
  • Nursing – 3 scholarships
  • Medicine – 2 scholarships
  • Biomedical Sciences – 3 scholarships

The university will cover tuition and research costs for successful candidates. In addition, beneficiaries will serve as Graduate Assistants under the programme.

“The scholarship package will cover tuition fees and research costs for the duration of study. The scholarships are open to all Kenyans under the age of 30 years who will also be engaged as Graduate Assistants. Programmes of study funded by the scholarship are scheduled to commence in August, 2026,” the university stated.

Kisii University Scholarship Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Applicants MUST have obtained a minimum of Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in a relevant degree from a recognized and accredited University;
  • Upon successful completion of the Masters Programme, candidates shall be expected to transition to a Ph.D. under the scholarship programme;
  • The successful candidates shall be bonded under the applicable terms and conditions of Kisii University;
  • The successful candidates shall be expected to complete their studies within the prescribed study period;
  • Candidates must be registered or registerable with relevant professional and/or regulatory bodies where applicable.

Meanwhile, applicants can obtain the application forms from the Kisii University website at www.kisiiuniversity.ac.ke.

Kisii University will host the Information Technology and Biomedical Sciences programmes. Meanwhile, Chuka University will offer Nursing, while Moi University will offer Medicine.

Applicants should submit their applications to the Vice Chancellor by August 25, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

For postal submissions, applicants should address their applications to: The Vice Chancellor, Kisii University, P.O. Box 408-40200, Kisii.

The university has also encouraged persons with disabilities to apply.

DeKUT Announces Master’s and PhD Scholarships

Similarly, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology has invited applications for scholarships covering Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programmes.

For the M.Sc. category, DeKUT has listed the following areas:

  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Microelectronic Engineering)
  • Mechanical Engineering (Machine Tools)
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power Systems Engineering)
  • Computer Science
  • Food Science and Technology
  • Industrial Biochemistry

For Ph.D. studies, the university has announced scholarships in:

  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power Systems Engineering)
  • Civil and Environmental Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering)

DeKUT has directed prospective applicants to its website and university offices for the detailed requirements and application forms.

“Full advert details, eligibility requirement and application forms are available on the university website at www.dkut.ac.ke and from the office of the Registrar (Academics Affairs and Research) or the Admissions Office, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology,” the university stated.

Additionally, the opportunities include Graduate Assistant and Technologist/Technician positions, depending on the programme.

DeKUT has also encouraged persons with disabilities to apply.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit their completed applications to the Registrar (Academics Affairs and Research) by August 25, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

They should address their applications to: Registrar (Academics Affairs and Research), Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, P.O. Box 657-10100, Nyeri.

Applicants can access the detailed requirements and application forms through the DeKUT website at www.dkut.ac.ke.

They can also contact the Registrar’s office through registraraa@dkut.ac.ke or 0709 202914/15.

With both universities setting the deadline for August 25, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., eligible candidates should complete and submit their applications before the deadline.
