Safaricom Introduces New Phone Numbers

Safaricom has introduced new phone number ranges, giving customers more options to stay connected with the people and moments that matter to them.

In a notice dated August 10, Safaricom stated that the new ranges come with prefixes 0118, 0119, 0140, 0141, 0142, 0143, 0180, 0181 and 0182.

The move provides customers seeking new Safaricom lines with additional number options as the telecommunications company expands its available number ranges.

“Fresh number, fresh start! Safaricom’s new number ranges are here, giving you more ways to stay connected to the people and moments that matter. Get yours from any Safaricom Shop or Dealer outlet with prefixes 0118, 0119, 0140–0143, or 0180–0182,” read part of the notice.

The company also noted that customers can obtain the new phone numbers from any Safaricom Shop or dealer outlet to select a number from the newly introduced ranges.

In addition, Safaricom reminded customers about the importance of keeping their mobile PINs confidential.

The telecommunications company further used the message “PIN YAKO SIRI YAKO!”, urging customers not to disclose their PINs to other people.

The introduction of the new numbers follows the exhaustion of numbers in the longstanding 07-prefix series. 

Safaricom now serves more than 71.6 million customers across its Kenyan and Ethiopian operations, with annual revenues reaching KSh 400 billion as of March 2026. 

In 2018, Kenya first introduced the 01XX prefix range to supplement the existing 07XX series as subscriber numbers grew.

Safaricom Explains Why it Removed  3-hour B-Live Data Bundles 

Elsewhere, Safaricom clarified the fate of its three-hour B-Live data bundle after customers raised concerns over changes to the popular time-based internet offers.

The clarification came after a Kenyan questioned Safaricom over the removal of the three-hour B-Live option, asking why the bundle had been withdrawn.

Following this complaint, Safaricom said it had changed the B-Live offering and would now make only one Ksh25 option available through the menu each day within specified hours.

When Safaricom launched B-Live, it allowed customers to purchase internet access based on how long they wanted to stay connected, rather than using the traditional megabyte or gigabyte model.

Safaricom’s initial B-Live offers included one hour for Ksh20, three hours for Ksh50, 4.5 hours for Ksh75, and six hours for Ksh150.

According to the company, the service was designed to give customers greater flexibility in how they accessed mobile internet.
