Details of Closed Meeting Between KDF and NYS Top Officials

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Youth Service (NYS) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening institutional cooperation during a strategic engagement held at Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
In a statement on May 19, KDF said they embrace inter-agency collaboration to optimise national resources, strengthen institutional capacity, and enhance service delivery.
KDF stated that strategic partnerships between security and public service institutions continue to play a critical role in advancing national development.
“Such collaborations not only foster knowledge exchange and operational efficiency but also create sustainable frameworks for building resilient institutions capable of addressing evolving national priorities,” reads part of the statement.
The meeting was hosted by the Chief of the Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri.
It brought together senior leadership from both institutions, including NYS Chairperson Lieutenant General (Rtd) Adan Mulata and Deputy Commandant General Edward Yaite.
The discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration and identifying new avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation.

It explored future cooperation under a government-to-government framework designed to enhance institutional effectiveness across various sectors.
Speaking during the meeting, General Kahariri acknowledged the enduring collaboration between KDF and NYS.
He stated that the two institutions have maintained close working relations in several strategic areas over the years.
Kahariri underscored the importance of sustaining such partnerships in strengthening national capacity and advancing shared institutional objectives.

Lieutenant General (Rtd) Mulata commended the role played by KDF in supporting the growth and transformation of the NYS.
He observed that KDF’s representation within the NYS Council has significantly contributed to the professionalisation of the service.
He further noted that the Defence Forces’ expertise has been instrumental in enabling the NYS to develop and operationalise key service frameworks.
NYS to Align With KDF
Beyond a ceremonial courtesy call, the meeting reflected a broader strategic commitment to institutional synergy, where collaboration is leveraged as a force multiplier for national capability development.
The partnership is poised to enhance operational readiness, organisational effectiveness, and long-term public service impact.
