Share

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), says they will continue their joint efforts with the FBI and build a strategic alliance that will hopefully grow for many more years.

The alliance is focused on boosting the efforts to counter corruption, economic offenses, illegal financial transactions, and money laundering.

Announcement came following the visit by an FBI delegation to EACC on May 7, 2026, at the EACC Headquarters.

According to Abdi Mohamud, Secretary and CEO of EACC, during the reception of his counterpart, Mr. Andrew Bailey, the Deputy Director of FBI, the visit marks a crucial move in the global campaign against corruption.

In his speech, Mohamud pointed out that corruption is no longer contained within national borders.

It has become an international scourge affecting the integrity of economic, financial, and security systems worldwide.

In this regard, he said that cooperation among countries was not only necessary but a necessity to preserve economic stability.

“Corruption facilitates financial crimes, enables illicit financial flows, and destabilizes economic, financial, and security systems in jurisdictions,” said Mohamud.

He stated that corruption across borders distorts markets, undermines institutions, and exposes countries to security threats.

Strengthening Transnational Anti-Corruption Cooperation

In this context, both agencies highlighted the importance of reinforcing joint mechanisms to address transnational financial crime networks and improve investigative outcomes across jurisdictions.

Andrew Bailey commended the EACC for its professionalism and commitment in handling corruption investigations and recovering stolen assets, noting that such efforts have significantly enhanced enforcement outcomes.

He stated that enhanced coordination frameworks are being developed to deepen operational engagement between the two institutions.

“The FBI will continue to partner with the Commission in sharing of intelligence, strengthening mutual legal assistance and tracing of corruptly acquire assets,” stated Mr. Bailey.

Further, Bailey disclosed plans to establish a Regional Transnational Anti-Corruption Programme Manager, which seeks to boost coordination in fighting against illicit financial flows and money laundering.

In addition, Bailey made commitments for increased technical support to the EACC, such as training of investigators on financial crimes.

The CEO of the EACC indicated that there were already achievements realized within the cooperation through technical assistance and capacity building.

One of the major achievements under this cooperation is the establishment of the Joint EACC–FBI Task Force in 2024.

This task force is composed of 24 specialists from both the main office and regional offices of EACC and FBI.

There have been other areas of cooperation, which include modernizing investigation interview rooms, and acquiring digital forensic technology, software, and licenses for investigations.
