Ecobank Kenya has announced the appointment of business leader Flora Mutahi as a Non-Executive Director to its Board of Directors.

In a notice dated June 24, Ecobank said the appointment reflected its commitment to strong corporate governance, diversity of thought, and strategic leadership as it continues to pursue sustainable growth and deepen its impact in the market.

“Ecobank Kenya is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Flora Mutahi as a Non-Executive Director to the Board of Ecobank Kenya,” read part of the notice.

A Forbes 50 Over 50 honouree, Mutahi brings more than 30 years of experience in manufacturing, enterprise development, corporate governance, and private sector leadership across Africa.

Flora Mutahi Joins Ecobank Kenya Board as Non-Executive Director

She is widely recognised as one of Kenya’s leading private sector figures, having held several high-profile leadership positions throughout her career.

Flora Mutahi served as the first female Chairperson of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), where she founded the Women in Manufacturing (WIM) Initiative to support the growth and advancement of women in industry.

She later became the first female Chairperson of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), playing a key role in strengthening public-private sector engagement and advancing Kenya’s business competitiveness agenda.

Mutahi also received a Head of State Commendation (HSC) award for her contributions to business and industry.

Beyond her leadership roles, Flora Mutahi is a respected author, speaker, and mentor to entrepreneurs across Africa, widely recognised for championing leadership development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable business growth.

According to Ecobank Kenya, Mutahi’s appointment underscores the bank’s focus on strengthening corporate governance and strategic leadership.

“The Board, Management, and staff of Ecobank Kenya warmly welcome Flora and look forward to benefiting from her extensive experience, leadership, and strategic counsel,” Ecobank stated.

Flora Mutahi holds an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Cape Town, which she obtained between 2008 and 2010.

She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Accounting and Finance from the United States International University.

Flora Mutahi is the founder and chief executive officer of Melvin Marsh International, a position she has held since May 1995.

The company is behind the popular Melvins brand, known for its flavoured tea blends, salt, and rice products that have become a household name in Kenya.

Additionally, she has founded the Scale Mastery Programme, an accelerator designed to help entrepreneurs, especially women and youth, transform small or stagnant ventures into structured, scalable, and profitable enterprises.

Mutahi has also served as a non-executive board member at Old Mutual since April 2023.

Between May 2017 and June 2024, she served as a director at SBM Bank Kenya, contributing to the bank’s strategic direction and governance.
