The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of Eldoret Road in Nairobi to pave the way for the construction of a vehicular bridge across the Nairobi River.
In a public notice, KURA said the road closure will take effect from 6 AM on Monday, May 18, 2026, and remain in force until 6 PM on Friday, September 18, 2026, spanning a period of four months.
“We wish to notify the general public that section of Eldoret Road, Nairobi will be closed as from 6 AM Monday 18th May, 2026 till 6 PM Friday 18th September, 2026 (Four Months),” the notice stated.
KURA said the closure is necessary to allow contractors to undertake the construction of a vehicular bridge across the Nairobi River, a project expected to improve mobility and connectivity within the city once completed.
“This is to allow the contractor to undertake the construction of a Vehicular Bridge across the Nairobi River,” the authority explained.
The closure is expected to affect motorists and commuters who frequently use the route, prompting the authority to advise road users to seek alternative routes during the construction period.

“We urge motorists to use alternative routes as shown in the sketch and to follow guide by traffic police and marshals,” KURA stated.
Traffic disruption is expected along surrounding roads as motorists adjust to the temporary changes.
