Two people have lost their lives after a road accident which took place at Lunyerere along the Kisumu Kakamega highway.
According to authorities a bodaboda rider and his passenger, died on the spot after the motorbike collided with a truck.
Confirming the incident, Izava North Ward Chief Evans Endesia said preliminary reports indicated that the motorcycle rider may have been speeding before the crash occurred.
The bodies of the deceased were later moved to the Vihiga County Referral Hospital mortuary pending identification and postmortem examinations.
Police officers and emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The latest accident at Lunyerere adds to the growing number of fatal accidents being reported on Kenyan roads in the recent days.

On May 9 2026, another accident was reported along the Nairobi Mombasa Highway near Athi River after a private vehicle burst into flames after a crash, forcing motorists and emergency responders to rush to the scene.
In a separate incident, at least 12 people reportedly died in two road accidents along the Nairobi Nakuru Highway in Limuru, Kiambu County.
This has renewed concerns over the rising cases of road accidents across the country.
Police and road safety agencies have repeatedly urged motorists, bodaboda operators and pedestrians to observe traffic rules.
They are urged to avoid speeding and exercise caution, especially on major highways that continue to witness fatal accidents.
Investigations into the Lunyerere accident are still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.

According to NTSA lot of people die on road accidents due to reasons auch as drunk driving, careless driving and being recless on the road.
Kenyans are frequently advised by road authorities to adhere to safety rules on the road in order to reduce the number of people who die on the roads.
