Gor Mahia Chairperson Ambrose Rachier Faces Exit After Registrar's Directive

Long-serving Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier could be headed for an exit after the Sports Registrar directed the club to begin the process of electing new officials whose terms have expired.

In a letter dated June 10, 2026, Sports Registrar Rose Wasike ordered Gor Mahia FC to issue a four-week election notice for the position of chairperson and all other elected officials whose eight-year terms ended on June 8, 2026.

The club was also directed to submit the election notice to both the Registrar and its members within two weeks, by June 24.

“The Chairperson’s allowable tenure expired at midnight on 8th June, 2026. The office was expecting the election notice from the Secretary of the Club to its members and the Sports Registrar before 8th June 2026, but it seems the Club ignored the provisions of the law,” the Registrar stated.

Registrar Says Rachier’s Term Has Ended

According to the Sports Registrar, Gor Mahia was issued a Certificate of Registration on June 8, 2018, and was required to hold elections within 90 days.

However, the club did not conduct its first election until August 8, 2020. The Registrar argued that, despite the delay, club officials continued to serve and carry out the club’s activities, meaning their eight-year tenure should still be counted from the date of registration.

The Registrar noted that Rachier’s maximum term allowed under the Sports Act expired on June 8, 2026.

Questions Raised Over Delayed Elections

In the letter, the Registrar accused club officials of failing to comply with regulations requiring elections to be held within 90 days of registration.

The office further claimed that the delayed elections appeared to be an attempt to avoid the eight-year term limit set by law for elected sports officials.

“This in itself is a sign of negligence, poor leadership and bad governance by officials that should not be condoned in any sports organization’s leadership,” the Registrar stated.

The letter also referenced previous communications sent to the club in July 2024 and March 2026 regarding the matter.

Club Ordered to Begin Fresh Election Process

Records from the Sports Registrar show that Gor Mahia held elections on April 13, 2025, where Rachier was re-elected as chairperson alongside Vice Chairperson Sally Bolo, Secretary Nicanor Arum and Treasurer Gerphas Ogolla.

However, the Registrar said some of the officials who were re-elected had already served close to the maximum period allowed by law.

As a result, the club has now been ordered to issue a four-week election notice for the chairperson position and any other office held by officials whose terms expired on June 8.

The Registrar warned that Gor Mahia must comply with the directive and submit the required election notice by June 24 to avoid continued violation of the law and ensure a smooth leadership transition.
