EXPLAINED: Why Uganda’s Data Protection Office Is Closing on June 25

The Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO) has announced that it will close all its offices on Thursday, June 25, 2026, to allow staff to attend an official meeting.

Management made the announcement on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and advised members of the public to plan accordingly.

The office said it will resume normal operations on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

The one-day closure will affect individuals seeking services at the PDPO headquarters in Kampala and other office locations. The agency apologized for any inconvenience caused and urged the public to take note of the temporary disruption.

“Please be informed that our offices will be closed on Thursday, June 25, 2026. This is to allow staff to participate in an office meeting,” Management stated in a public notice on June 24, 2026.

Services and Compliance Reminders from the PDPo During its Closure

The Personal Data Protection Office said people can still access information and some services during the closure. The office gave three ways to do this.

  • People can visit the PDPo website at http://www.pdpo.go.ug for forms, guidelines, and updates on data protection.
  • The office also provided email support through info@pdpo.go.ug.
  • People can also use WhatsApp at +256 790 807 497.

“During this period, people may still access information and some services through these channels, ” Management noted.

The Personal Data Protection Office is reminding organizations in Uganda that they have to follow the Data Protection Regulations by July 1, 2026.

Authorities stated the office has been helping people understand these regulations and registering data collectors and processors.

Closure of the Personal Data Protection Office in Uganda

The notice did not say what the “official office meeting” is about, but the Personal Data Protection Office Management apologized for any trouble caused by the closure.

“We apologize for any inconvenience. We thank you for your understanding,” Management said.

The Personal Data Protection Office makes sure that Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019 is enforced.

This law regulates how personal data is collected, processed, and stored by government agencies and private entities.

The Personal Data Protection Office confirmed that it will respond to complaints and registration queries sent via email and WhatsApp during the closure.

Physical submissions and consultations will start again when offices reopen on Friday morning.
