How to Apply for a Reflective Number Plate in Kenya

Vehicle owners in Kenya can apply for the new-generation reflective number plate online through the NTSA service portal on eCitizen.
The plates are designed to improve vehicle identification, enhance road safety, and help curb vehicle-related crimes.
Before starting the application, ensure you have:
- An active eCitizen account
- A copy of the vehicle logbook
- Clear photos of the current number plates
- The required documents merged into a single PDF file
- Payment for the application fee
Step 1: Log In to eCitizen
Visit the official eCitizen portal:
Log in using your ID number and password. If you do not have an account, create one first.

Step 2: Access NTSA Services
- Select the NTSA Service Portal (New)
- Click on Motor Vehicle Services
- Choose Reflective Number Plates
Step 3: Select Plate Type
Choose:
- A single plate (rear only), or
- A pair of plates (front and rear)
You should also confirm whether your vehicle uses oblong or square plates before submitting the application.
Step 4: Choose a Collection Centre for the Number Plate
Select your preferred NTSA office or Huduma Centre where you would like to collect the plates once they are ready.

Step 5: Upload Required Documents
Upload the PDF containing:
- Vehicle logbook copy
- Photos of the current number plates
Ensure the documents are clear and correctly attached.
Step 6: Submit and Pay
- Tick the declaration box
- Preview the application details
- Submit the application
- Proceed to payment
Application Fees
- Single reflective plate: Ksh 1,550
- Pair of reflective plates: Ksh 3,050
Step 7: Wait for Processing and Collection
NTSA will process the application and send SMS notifications on the status of your request. Once ready, you will receive collection details via SMS.
Processing typically takes about seven working days, although timelines may vary depending on demand.
Collection
When collecting the new plates, carry your identification documents and follow any instructions provided by NTSA in the SMS notification.
Some applicants may also be required to surrender the old number plates.
