How to Book a Driving Test Online Through NTSA TIMS

Booking a driving test in Kenya is done through the NTSA TIMS portal, which is now closely linked with the eCitizen system.
The process is fully online, making it easier for learner drivers to schedule their test after completing driving school
Before booking, make sure you have the following:
- A valid Kenyan National ID
- A TIMS/eCitizen account
- A KRA PIN
- A Provisional Driving Licence (PDL)
- A Driving Test Completion Certificate from your driving school
- A working phone number and email address
You must complete driving school training before you can book a test.
Step 1: Log in to NTSA TIMS
- Visit the official NTSA TIMS portal at https://tims.ntsa.go.ke or log in through eCitizen.
- Enter your ID number and password to access your account. Complete any verification steps if required.
Step 2: Open Driving Licence Services
Once inside your account, go to the dashboard and click on:
- Driving Licence Services
This section contains all services related to driving tests and licences.
Step 3: Select Driving Test Booking
- Click on Driving Test Booking.
The system will show you the available options for booking your test.

Step 4: Choose Test Centre and Date
Select your preferred:
- NTSA test centre (for example Nairobi, Mombasa, or your nearest centre)
- Available date
- Time slot
Availability depends on NTSA scheduling, so some dates may be fully booked.
Step 5: Make Payment
After selecting your test slot, you will be required to pay the test fee.
Payment is done through M-Pesa using a Paybill number generated by the system.
Once payment is successful, keep the transaction details safe.
Step 6: Confirm Your Booking
After payment:
- Confirm your booking on the system
- Download or print your receipt
- Wait for confirmation via SMS or email
The message will include your test date, time, and centre.

What Happens After Booking
On the test day, you will report to the selected NTSA centre.
You will sit for:
- A theory test on road rules and traffic signs
- A practical driving test to assess your driving skills
If you pass, you will receive a Certificate of Competence (C of C), which allows you to apply for a driving licence.

- Book only after completing driving school training
- Check the portal regularly for available slots
- Ensure all your details are correct before submitting
- If you miss your test, you will need to rebook and repay
