Fatal Crash at Mau Summit Leaves Motorists Stranded as Three Vehicles Collide

A fatal road accident at Mau Summit on Sunday morning left motorists facing disruption as emergency teams rushed to the scene.
The crash, reported at around 8:00 am on October 4, 2026, involved a pickup truck, a small car and a lorry that was parked by the roadside.
Preliminary reports indicate that the pickup truck rammed into the small car from behind before the driver lost control. The pickup truck then crashed into the stationary lorry parked along the roadside.
The circumstances that caused the pickup driver to lose control remained under investigation as authorities responded to the scene.
Motorists Warned as Rescue Operation Continues at Mau Summit
Motorists approaching Mau Summit from both the Nakuru and Kericho sides were advised to reduce speed and maintain a safe following distance.
Drivers were also urged to avoid overtaking and give way to rescue teams operating at the scene. Authorities urged motorists to exercise caution while passing through the affected section of the road.

Claims also emerged alleging that the pickup truck driver may have been intoxicated before the crash. However, the driver’s condition had not been officially confirmed at the time of reporting.
Authorities had also not confirmed the number of casualties as they continued to assess the scene and respond to the incident.
October Road Accidents
The Mau Summit crash comes just a day after another deadly road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
On October 3, at least 17 people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash at Salama in Makueni County. The victims included pilgrims travelling from Mombasa to Subukia for the National Prayer Day.

The crash involved a lorry, a 14-seater matatu and several other vehicles. Seven other people sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) dispatched a multidisciplinary team to investigate the Salama crash and urged motorists to exercise caution, avoid dangerous overtaking and maintain proper lane discipline.
