Five Killed, Several Injured in Crash Along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

Five people have reportedly been killed while 13 others sustained serious injuries after a Kinatwa Shuttle collided head-on with a trailer at Kapiti Plains along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway.

According to preliminary reports, the crash occurred on Wednesday evening, September 16, 2026, involving an 18-seater Kinatwa Shuttle and a trailer travelling in the opposite direction.

The five victims died at the scene following the impact, while the injured passengers were evacuated for medical attention at Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

Kinatwa Shuttle Collides With Trailer on Mombasa Road

The Kinatwa Shuttle was travelling from Nairobi when it collided head-on with the trailer at Kapiti Plains.

The shuttle reportedly had 18 occupants, including the driver, at the time of the crash.

Reports indicate that the collision caused extensive damage to the shuttle, as emergency responders and members of the public worked to rescue passengers trapped in the wreckage.

The crash reportedly killed four men and one woman, while 13 other occupants sustained serious injuries. Rescue teams took the injured passengers to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment.

The injured were reportedly evacuated in two phases. A Machakos ambulance based in Chumvi took seven of them to the hospital, while another ambulance from Machakos Level 5 Hospital later transported the remaining six.

Reports also indicate that the injured were receiving medical attention as authorities began investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The exact cause of the accident had not been established by the time of publication.

Four killed in Kisii after lorry hits pedestrians along Daraja Mbili Road

In a separate incident, four people have been killed and several others seriously injured after a lorry lost control and hit pedestrians along the Kisii CBD–Daraja Mbili Road.

The accident occurred near Chomachoma Zone after the lorry reportedly veered off the road and swept into pedestrians using the roadside walkways.

Several victims were rushed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The extent of the injuries among those admitted remains unclear as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
