Former MP’s Son Attacked and Killed in Kisumu

Former Matungu MP David Were’s son, Hannington Were, was murdered in a robbery incident on the morning of May 24 at Robert Ouko Estate in Kisumu.
The 39-year-old succumbed after two-armed men on a motorbike attacked him and his friend shortly after they left the house at around 1 a.m.
Witnesses and police reports indicated that the armed men attacked the duo and rode off on a motorbike before speeding away immediately.
The victim suffered a fatal stabbing on his back during the scuffle.
Family members, however, insisted he was taken to the hospital at about 8 p.m. on the night where doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.
Murder of Hannington Were
This time difference has raised concern over his time of death, though his relatives are claiming that he succumbed to the injuries that he sustained from the attack.
Hannington’s father, a former Matungu MP, David Were, confirmed the murder to journalists while mourning his son.
“At the hospital, I am told that he was taken around 8 pm. And when he arrived, I am told that he had died. I am being told that he had stab wounds on his back,” said the ex-MP while mourning the demise.
He said the family was still trying to digest the sad news.
Meanwhile, locals at the Robert Owuko Estate decried the murder and pleaded with the government for increased night patrols, as insecurity has been on the rise in the area.

Politicians Express Condolences to David Were
Politicians have condoled with ex-Matungu MP David Were, whose son was killed in Kisumu.
Philip Etale wrote: “INSECURITY ALL OVER… Pole sana, my friend Hon. David Were, for this painful loss.”
FCPA Fernandes Barasa OGW wrote: “I convey my heartfelt condolences to former Matungu MP Hon. David Were and his family following the brutal murder of his son, the late Hannington Were, yesterday in Kisumu.”

“I pray for your strength during this trying moment and call on our police to be swift in their investigation so that the culprits are brought to book,” Barasa concluded.
Police have launched investigations into the incident and are hunting for the perpetrators who took off on a motorcycle immediately after attacking Hannington Were.
