Former TV presenter Grace Ekirapa has opened up about her experience within the church following rumours about the end of her marriage with actor Pascal Tokodi.
Grace said that while she had long been actively involved in church service, the atmosphere around her changed once rumours about her marriage began circulating online.
She explained that individuals who previously showed her warmth and appreciation suddenly became distant, leaving her feeling isolated within the same community.
“Talking about an experience I had three years ago, after the news went out of my not anymore, not there anymore marriage, if I would say that. I received some, I got some treatment that was very saddening,” said Grace.
According to her, the shift in attitude was one of the most painful parts of the experience, as she had expected the church to remain a place of support during personal struggles.

She also recalled being approached by a pastor who informed her that some members of the congregation were uncomfortable with her continued service on the pulpit.

The discussion, she said, made her fear possible removal from ministry duties, despite her commitment and years of service.
“Now, I serve in my local church, and I have served in my local church for a while now. In fact, when I was still married, I was serving. But when the news came out, unfortunately, people didn’t like the fact that I was serving in the church,”
The former TV presenter also reflected on a past incident where other church members were publicly disciplined for moral failures, which intensified her fear of rejection.
However, Grace highlighted that her pastor reassured her instead of sidelining her.
She noted that the pastor asked whether she still felt comfortable serving, and she chose to continue because ministry was a source of stability for her during a difficult season.
Call for Compassion in Churches
Meanwhile, reflecting on her experience, Grace questioned how churches handle people going through personal struggles, especially leaders and public figures.

She said she has since received messages from other church leaders who feel overwhelmed by the pressure of maintaining appearances amid marital challenges.
Grace compared the experience of believers in church to a hospital scenario, saying it feels like going to seek healing, but instead leaving in worse condition.
“Imagine you’re unwell and you go into a hospital and instead of the doctors treating you, they end up intoxicating you. So you end up going home sicker, if there’s a word like that, than you were before. I feel like that’s the experience we have received for a long time, especially believers,” said Grace.
