Fresh Blow to Nairobi Motorists as KeNHA Announces 3-Month Closure on Waiyaki Way

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the partial closure of a section of Waiyaki Way in Nairobi to facilitate ongoing footbridge construction and expansion works.
In a notice dated June 18, 2026, KeNHA Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli said the affected section stretches between Karuna Close and the Westlands Roundabout on the Nakuru-bound carriageway.
The partial closure will take effect from Thursday, June 25, 2026, and remain in place until Friday, September 25, 2026.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8) Road from Karuna Close and Westlands Roundabout on the Nakuru-bound carriageway will be partially closed from Thursday, June 25, 2026, to Friday, September 25, 2026,” read part of the notice.
KeNHA to Close Part of Waiyaki Way as Westlands Footbridge Works Begin
According to the authority, the closure is necessary to facilitate the extension of the existing pedestrian footbridge at Dunhill Towers and the construction of the proposed Fogo Gaucho QuickMart Westlands Footbridge.

KeNHA also noted that the project aims to improve pedestrian infrastructure and enhance safety along the busy corridor.
In addition, the authority urged motorists using the affected section of Waiyaki Way to exercise caution throughout the construction period.
Drivers have been advised to observe all temporary traffic signs, comply with traffic control measures put in place, and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals stationed at the site.
“Motorists are further advised to approach the affected section with caution, observe and comply with all temporary traffic signs and traffic control measures as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the authority stated.
Section of Mombasa Road Closed for 13 Hours
This notice comes shortly after KeNHA announced that motorists using Mombasa Road will experience a temporary traffic disruption later this month following the closure of a section of the Nairobi-bound carriageway between Airtel Complex and General Motors.

The authority said the affected section of the Nairobi-bound carriageway along Mombasa Road (A8) will be closed to traffic from 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
KeNHA further stated that the temporary closure is intended to facilitate the installation of fabricated footbridge beams for the Airtel Footbridge across the Nairobi-bound carriageway.
Additionally, the authority also stated that the construction works are part of the ongoing infrastructure improvements, which are aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety along the busy highway.
