Morara Kebaso has defended his role as a father after his ex-wife accused him of failing to take care of their children, saying he has been actively involved in their upbringing despite their ongoing family dispute.

Morara hit back at the claims in a lengthy response, questioning why their children had been brought into the public disagreement and insisting that he had consistently taken responsibility for them.

“I have made a very gentle post for avoidance of this. I said in my post we should respect you and I ended it there. Now that you are keen on lying to the whole world that I am an irresponsible father, let me set the record straight,” he said.

His response came after his ex-wife raised concerns about his role in caring for their children, prompting Morara to detail his involvement in their education and upbringing.

He also accused her of portraying him unfairly before the public, saying he had initially chosen not to respond out of respect for her.

Morara explains Ksh1 million school fees dispute

Morara said the children’s education has also been a major source of disagreement between him and his ex-wife.

He claimed the children previously attended Rophine School, where he paid an average of Ksh120,000 per term.

According to Morara, his ex-wife moved the children to an international school while he was away in China without consulting him, claiming the change significantly increased their expenses, with school fees and other needs for the two children now costing about Ksh1 million per term.

“The school fees plus other needs for two children is now 1 million per term. I protested this move. Not because of the cost but because I don’t believe in the values taught at international schools,” he said.

Morara said his objection was not primarily about the amount of money involved but the environment in which he wanted his children raised.

“I wanted my children to go to normal Kenyan schools like other children so that they build African values,” he said.

The disagreement has since moved to court. Morara said he was served with court papers while travelling to Ethiopia in a case seeking to have him pay the school fees.

“The case is still in court. I am waiting for the decision nijue cha kufanya,” he said.

I have attended every single parents’ meeting

Morara also rejected the suggestion that he has been an absent or irresponsible father, pointing to his involvement in the children’s schooling.

He claimed he had attended every parents’ meeting since the children started school, while alleging that his ex-wife had attended only two.

“Mercy. If you are honest, you will bear witness to the whole world that I have attended every single parents meeting since they stepped in school. In fact, you have only attended two parents meetings. I have attended all of them,” he said.

He further claimed that his political activities never stopped him from being present in his children’s lives challenging teachers at Rophine School to confirm his involvement, claiming he would make unannounced visits to check on the children’s classwork.

“Teachers of Rophine School. Can you kindly confirm this. That I used to come to school uninvited randomly to check classwork,” he said.

Morara also recalled caring for their daughter Zainah when she was born, using the experience to challenge claims that he has neglected his parental responsibilities.

“When Zainah was born, who was staying up at night to watch over her? Who was washing her? Who was washing her clothes? Is it not me?” he asked.

Beyond the disagreement over the children, Morara addressed the collapse of his relationship with his ex-wife and claimed he had attempted to reconcile with her after she left their home.

He said he was in Kisii when she left and later travelled to her parents’ home in Bobasi in an attempt to initiate a family reconciliation.

“I came and found you gone. Since then, how many reconciliation attempts have I made? I left Nairobi, took myself to your parents’ home in Bobasi in humility and talked to them and asked for a family meeting with my parents,” he said.

According to Morara, the attempt did not result in a family meeting and he was instead served with court papers.

“So, between family reconciliation and court battles what exactly is effective? You chose court. And it’s fine, my lawyers are there. Let’s wait for the decision,” he said.

Morara warns against taking family dispute online

Morara further urged his ex-wife to stop airing their disagreements on social media, warning that the public may move on once the dispute ends but their children would have to live with its consequences.

“You should also know that these people who are commenting here are just enjoying the drama like people in an entertainment theatre. When it’s done and dusted, they will not be there, our children will be left with a permanent shame,” he said.

He said the dispute had already lasted several months and maintained that he was ready to move forward with his life.

“This thing ended earlier in the year. We are headed to the close of the year. I have stayed single for all that time. But you see a man can’t stay down. I must dust myself and keep walking,” Morara said.

He ultimately called for restraint, saying the court should be allowed to determine the issues surrounding their children.

“So let it be civil and respectful. Let the court where you took the case decide what we will do about these children and let’s do that,” he said.
