Fresh Twist in Murder of Mt Elgon MP Aspirant as Two More Suspects Arrested

Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of former Councillor and Mt. Kenya MP aspirant Nathan Masai Wasama in Cheptais, Bungoma County.

Robert Kimutai Psisei, alias Robert Miti, surrendered at Cheptais Police Station on the morning of Wednesday, August 12, before officers arrested, escorted and booked him at Sirisia Police Station.

“The two suspects are among those in custody as detectives continue with investigations, with all suspects expected to be arraigned in court to face the law once investigations are complete,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said.

Meanwhile, another suspect, Brian Chongin Kaos, surrendered at Chwele Police Station, where officers took him into custody.

Nathan Masai Wasama Murder Probe Intensifies

Following the two surrenders, detectives have intensified their investigation into the murder of Nathan Masai Wasama.

The two suspects remain in custody as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The latest development follows the earlier arrest of three suspects in connection with the murder as detectives continue to pursue other individuals who may have links to the case.

At the same time, the DCI has appealed to members of the public with credible information to help detectives locate the remaining suspects.

“Anyone with credible information that may assist detectives in apprehending the remaining suspects is urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the DCI through its toll-free hotline, 0800 722 203, or WhatsApp 0709 570 000,” the agency said.

Wasama Was Shot At His Home

According to reports, unknown assailants raided Nathan Masai Wasama’s home in Tuikut, Cheptais Sub-county, Mt Elgon Constituency, Bungoma County, on the night of Thursday, August 6, 2026.

The attackers then shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

The killing marked the second reported attempt on Nathan Masai Wasama’s life in two years. In 2024, gunmen ambushed him in the Kapcheshari area and fired several shots at the rear of his vehicle at around 7:00 pm.

Despite the attack, Wasama escaped unharmed.

Wasama Had Declared 2027 Ambitions

His death came only weeks after he publicly announced his intention to contest the Mt Elgon parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.

Before his death, Nathan Masai Wasama had served as the former Chesikaki councillor and had begun positioning himself for the parliamentary contest.

As detectives continue with the investigation, authorities are pursuing the remaining suspects and seeking information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding his killing.
