The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested Andrew Gachagua Njui over allegations of defrauding a land buyer of Ksh 900,000 through a fake land sale.
In a statement issued on Friday, June 5, 2026, the DCI said the suspect was arrested after a victim reported that he had been conned while attempting to buy a parcel of land in Molo.
According to investigators, the buyer believed the transaction was genuine and handed over Ksh 900,000 to Njui for the land.
“Fully convinced of the transaction’s authenticity, the complainant handed over Ksh 900,000 to Njui. However, the deception was unveiled when the victim conducted an official land search, revealing that the parcel did not belong to the fraudster but was instead registered under another individual’s name,” the DCI stated.
Andrew Gachagua Failed to Attend Court
The agency said investigations were launched after the complaint was filed, leading to the suspect’s arraignment before a court in Molo.

However, the case failed to proceed as scheduled on May 26, 2026, after the accused did not appear in court.
“The matter was coming up for hearing on May 26, 2026, at the Principal Magistrate’s Court in Molo, but the accused failed to attend court, resulting in the issuance of a warrant of arrest,” the DCI said.
Arrested in Othaya Hideout
Detectives from the DCI Headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigations Unit later tracked the suspect to the Giathege area of Othaya in Nyeri County.
The detectives arrested him and took him into custody, where he is currently being processed ahead of his next court appearance.
The DCI stated that the case highlights the continued threat of land fraud in the country and urged Kenyans to be cautious when buying property.
Recent Land Fraud Cases
The arrest of Andrew Gachagua Njui comes amid a crackdown on land fraud cases by the DCI’s Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU).
In May 2026, detectives arrested Harrison Kabiru Mugo and John Mwaura in separate cases involving forged land documents.

Mugo was linked to an alleged scheme to subdivide and sell land in Mlolongo without the owner’s consent, while Mwaura was accused of using fake documents to transfer land in Nairobi’s Westlands area.
The suspects were arrested after court-issued warrants and remain under investigation alongside other possible accomplices.
In a separate case, former Mathioya MP Francis Njakwe Githiari was arrested over an alleged Ksh 6.4 million land fraud.
Detectives said a couple paid him the money as part of a land and housing deal in Ngong before discovering ownership disputes. He was expected to face charges of obtaining money by false pretenses.
