Gachagua: Ruto Told Me He Wanted to Outrich Kenyatta and Moi Families

The leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Rigathi Gachagua, has accused President William Ruto of serving his personal interests instead of the people during his first term as president.
Gachagua made these remarks while touring the United Kingdom, where he allegedly revealed that Ruto had told him he wanted to be richer than Kenya’s most prominent political families.
“When we were in good books, he told me that in 5 years he wants to be richer than the family of Kenyatta and Moi combined,” said Gachagua during an interview with Kenya Newsline, adding that he managed that in 4 years and destroyed all public property to achieve his goal.

Allegations of Corruption and a Focus on Personal Wealth by Political Leaders
“It looked like a tall order to me, and he said that he would be. Today, it is true that he is richer than both families; in the process, he has destroyed everything,” he claimed.
Gachagua alleged that Ruto’s focus on his personal financial success denied the country opportunities.
“Stewardship is a calling and not a wealth ladder. It is not a formula for richness, it is about service,” Gachagua said, noting that any leader who joins parliament seeking to enrich himself will never be re-elected.
Gachagua revealed that his team is ready to take on Ruto in the 2027 general election. However, restoring Kenya to its original state will be an arduous task because the next regime will start from scratch.
“As we are looking for leadership, we will have a difficult time because we will have to start from scratch to restore Kenya,” he noted.

Political Alliances and Criticisms of Leadership in Kenya
Gachagua has been meeting with other opposition leaders, Kalonzo Musyoka, ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and Martha Karua, the leader of the People’s Liberation Party, who have been attacking the regime for corruption and incompetence.
The DCP leader, the ex-Deputy president under Ruto’s government, admitted that most politicians have failed in their duty after winning election seats, and he urged the people of Kenya to reject leaders whose motive for leadership is wealth acquisition.
