Gachagua Alleges Ruto Administration Plans Ksh 6.2B Loot Through Supplementary Budget

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged members of the public not to participate in the planned Gen Z demonstrations scheduled for June 25, which are intended to commemorate victims of the 2024 Finance Bill protests.

In his address to the nation, Gachagua warned Kenyans to stay away from the protests, claiming there are plans to infiltrate the demonstrations with goons to cause chaos and insecurity in parts of the country including the Mount Kenya region, Nairobi, Narok, and Kajiado.

He advised students to remain at home and study, parents to stay home and care for their families, and workers to avoid the streets and prioritize the safety of their businesses, insisting that the situation may pose a serious security risk if the protests go ahead.

Gachagua Alleges Plot to Disrupt June 25 Protests

Former Deputy President and DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has made serious allegations regarding the planned Gen Z demonstrations scheduled for June 25, claiming there is a coordinated effort to cause chaos and blame opposition figures.

He referenced remarks allegedly made by Interior Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on June 20, suggesting that the protests would “only happen in the Mount Kenya region,” arguing that this statement was not accidental but part of a broader plan.

“That was not an idle statement. It was a reflection of what has been planned,” Gachagua said.

Allegations of coordination and funding

Gachagua further alleged that top government officials, including Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, government officials linked to PS Raymond Omollo, and other leaders allied to President William Ruto, had organized groups to infiltrate protests.

He also named former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, and Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, alleging their involvement in mobilization efforts.

According to him, about Ksh 200 million was allegedly withdrawn from a bank account in Upper Hill linked to confidential expenditure in the State Department of Internal Security, money he claims is meant to mobilize individuals to cause unrest.

Claims of police involvement

Gachagua also alleged that police officers had been instructed to escort groups he referred to as “goons” using police vehicles and hired transport, including matatus.

He further claimed that some senior officers were uncomfortable with instructions they had allegedly received, suggesting they were being told to allow destruction of property before later arresting civilians under terrorism-related charges.

Warning of targeted violence

He claimed that certain political strongholds were being targeted to create the impression that he was behind any resulting violence.

“I have been told that DCP strongholds have been targeted for violence so that I can be blamed as instigator of violence,” he said.

He also added that plain clothes officers would allegedly be used to provide cover for the groups involved.

Appeal to Gen Z protesters

Despite the strong allegations, Gachagua appealed to young people planning to take part in the demonstrations to reconsider.

“I want to appeal to the Gen Zs with a lot of humility and kindness to consider not going out to the streets,” he said.

He added,“These are our children and grandchildren whom we need next year to help liberate the country in the ballot.”
