Govt Announces New Entry Fees for All Museums in Latest Pricing Review

The National Museums of Kenya has announced revised admission fees for museums, heritage sites, and monuments across the country.

The new charges will take effect on 7th May, 2026.

In a public notice issued under Legal Notice No. 79 of 2025, on May 6, 2026, the institution said the changes follow the National Museums and Heritage (Admissions Fees) Regulations, 2025.

“The National Museums of Kenya wishes to inform the public that entry fees across our museums and heritage sites have been revised,” the notice reads.

The institution has urged visitors to check the updated fee structure before planning their visits.

“We appreciate your continued support as we enhance our services and visitor experience,” the statement added.

National Museum New Three-Tier Pricing System Introduced

The revised fees apply across three categories:

  • Kenya and East African Citizens (Ksh)
  • Residents and Rest of Africa (USD)
  • Foreigners -Outside Africa (USD)

Nairobi Museums Updated Entry Fees

At the Nairobi National Museum, adults from Kenya and East Africa will pay Ksh 350 while children will pay Ksh 200.

Residents and visitors from the rest of Africa will pay $9 (Ksh 1161) for adults and $6 (Ksh 774) for children. Foreign visitors from outside Africa will pay $18 (Ksh 2322) for adults and $9 (Ksh 1161) for children.

At the Snake Park, adults will pay Ksh 350 (Kenya/East Africa), $6 ( Ksh 774) -(Africa residents), and $18 (Ksh 2322) (outside Africa), while children will pay Ksh 200, $3 (Ksh 387), and $9 (Ksh 1161), respectively.

A combined ticket for the Nairobi National Museum and Snake Park will cost Ksh 600 for locals, $15 (Ksh 1935) for African residents, and $25 (Ksh 3225) for foreign visitors.

At the Nairobi Gallery, adults will pay Ksh 300 for locals and $14 (Ksh 1806) for foreigners outside Africa, while children will pay Ksh 200 and $7 (Ksh 903) respectively.

Fort Jesus and Karen Blixen Museum Fees Adjusted

The Karen Blixen Museum and Fort Jesus will now charge Ksh 550 for Kenya and East African citizens, $9 (Ksh 1161)for residents and rest of Africa, and $17 (Ksh 2193) for visitors outside Africa. Children will pay Ksh 300, $6 (Ksh 774), and $8 (Ksh 1032) respectively.

A combined ticket for Fort Jesus Museum and Butterfly House will cost Ksh 650 for locals, $12 (Ksh 1548) for African residents, and $19 (Ksh 2451) for foreigners outside Africa.

Regional Museums and Heritage Sites

Sites including Meru, Malindi, Kabarnet, Kapenguria, Gede Ruins, Kariandusi, Olorgesailie, Koobi Fora, Thimlich Ohinga, Jumba Ruins, Takwa Ruins, and various Jomo Kenyatta heritage sites will now charge Ksh 200 for Kenya/East Africa citizens, $6 (Ksh 774) for African residents, and $8 (Ksh 1032) for visitors outside Africa. Children will pay Ksh 100, $3 (Ksh 387), and $4 (Ksh 516) respectively.

Lamu Heritage Circuit Packages

For Lamu heritage sites, the combined package covering Lamu Museum, Lamu Fort, Swahili House, and German Post Office will cost Ksh 750 for locals, $24(Ksh 3096 ) for African residents, and $40 (Ksh 5160)for foreign visitors.

Children will pay Ksh 400, $12 (Ksh 1548), and $16 (Ksh 2064), respectively.

Other sites such as Tambach, Pate, Nyeri, Shimoni, Songhor, Fort Ternan, and Siyu Fort will charge Ksh 100 for locals, $3 (Ksh 387) for African residents, and $4 (Ksh 516) for foreigners outside Africa.

Children will pay Ksh 50, $2 (Ksh 258), and $2 (Ksh 258) respectively.

Fees That Remain Unchanged

The institution confirmed that some sites will maintain existing charges. These include Hyrax Hill, Rabai, and selected categories of the Nairobi Gallery.

For example, Hyrax Hill will remain at Ksh 100 for adults and Ksh 50 for children for Kenyan and East African citizens, while residents and foreigners will continue paying in the $400-$500 range, depending on category. Rabai follows the same structure.

Opening Hours and Public Information

All museums and heritage sites will remain open daily from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, including public holidays.
