The Ministry of Health has issued a public notice urging citizens to observe preventive measures against Ebola Virus Disease and to rely only on official information from the ministry.
According to the notice released on Sunday, May 17, the Ministry warned against the spread of unverified information that could potentially cause panic to the public.
“The Ministry of Health urges members of the public to observe preventive measures against Ebola Virus Disease and rely only on official public health information,” the notice stated.
The Ministry has told Kenyans to remain calm and vigilant.
Four key actions to observe in the prevention of Ebola are maintaining high standards of personal hygiene, avoiding contact with bodily fluids of sick persons, and avoiding handling sick or dead animals.
Kenyans were also told to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms that look like Ebola, especially after any recent travel to areas that are affected.
“The Ministry further advises the public to rely only on official information from the Ministry of Health and recognized international public health agencies, and to refrain from spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary panic,” the advisory reads.
This alert comes after the World Health Organization declared Ebola a global health emergency after some cases of Ebola were reported in various countries.

The ministry did not report any confirmed Ebola cases in Kenya but said the advisory was to take precautions.
It reiterated the importance of hygiene and early reporting of any Ebola symptoms.
Quick medical intervention may improve outcomes for patients with symptoms of the Ebola virus.

The ministry also gave a warning against interacting with wildlife because contact with infected animals still remains a known cause for transmission.
The Ministry of Health further said it will continue to monitor the Ebola situation and provide updates to the public as required.
