How Police Stopped an Al-Shabaab Raid in Mandera

Security personnel deployed at Sheikhbarrow BPU Camp, Lafey Sub-County, Mandera County, were able to foil an alleged terror attack by the suspected group of Al-Shabaab fighters, based on an official report by Armistice Security Consult International.
This occurred around 6:45 P.M on Monday, May 25, at Sheikhbarrow Camp, which is located near the Kenya-Somalia border region and has had various security threats due to militancy over the years.
According to the report, the attackers launched an assault on the camp using rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and machine guns, triggering a firefight between the militants and security personnel that lasted about 10 minutes before the attackers were repelled.
Security Teams Launch Clearance Operations
The report stated that security personnel managed to prevent the attackers from breaching the camp despite the intensity of the exchange.
No casualties or injuries were reported among the security officers or civilians following the attack.
“Suspected Al-Shabaab militants attempt attack on Sheikhbarrow BPU Camp,” the report stated.
“The attackers engaged security personnel using RPGs and machine guns,” Armistice added.

The security advisory further noted that anti-terror units were immediately deployed to conduct follow-up clearance and security operations within the surrounding area to eliminate any remaining threats and assess the security situation after the attempted raid.
“An exchange that lasted approximately 10 minutes before successfully repelling,” the report added.
“No casualties or injuries reported,” the security consultant noted.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on whether any militants were killed or injured during the confrontation.
Heightened Vigilance Advised
The attack highlights security concerns in Mandera County and other border regions that have frequently been targeted by suspected Al-Shabaab militants operating from neighboring Somalia.

Armistice Security Consult International classified the threat level following the incident as “Moderate – High.”
The Consult warned organizations, residents and personnel operating in the county to remain alert amid fears of possible additional militant activity.
“Anti-terror security teams conducting follow-up clearance within the area,” the report said.
The advisory urged both public and private organizations operating within Mandera County and nearby border zones to reassess their security preparedness, particularly movement and operational protocols.
“Organizations and personnel operating within Mandera County and adjacent border areas are advised to maintain heightened vigilance, review movement security protocols and monitor further security updates due to the potential for additional militant activity,” the statement read.
