Many people often get their skin damaged during hot weather because they do not know how to take care of it.

Hot weather can trigger a range of skin problems such as sunburns, dehydration, heat rashes and even excessive oil production.

However, there are some practical tips to help take care of the skin during hot weather.

Apply Sunscreen

Sunscreen is one of the most important skincare products during hot weather.

Experts recommend using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and reapplying it every two hours, especially when spending time outdoors.

Staying Hydrated

During hot weather, staying hydrated is very important. Research says drinking more than eight glasses a day helps the skin retain moisture and reduce breakouts.

Proper hydration supports skin elasticity and can prevent dryness caused by prolonged exposure to heat.

Cleanse Regularly

Hot weather often leads to increased sweating and oil production, which can clog pores and cause breakouts.

Using a gentle cleanser twice a day helps remove dirt, sweat, and excess oil from the skin, which keeps it healthy.

Moisturise

Many people skip moisturising during hot weather, but it is very important.

Moisturising your skin using a light moisturiser helps maintain hydrated skin without feeling greasy.

Protective Clothing

Wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and lightweight long-sleeved clothing can provide an extra layer of protection against harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.

They also prevent the skin from being dry and cracking due to the ultraviolet rays from the sun.

Avoid Harsh Skincare Products

Products containing high amounts of alcohol or strong exfoliants can strip the skin of its natural oils and cause irritation, especially in hot conditions.

During hot conditions, the skin is mostly vulnerable to dryness, and harsh exfoliating agents strip natural moisture.

Eat Skin-Friendly foods

Fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, such as watermelon, oranges, cucumbers, and berries, can help protect the skin from environmental damage.

These foods also keep the skin hydrated, hence making it easy to retain moisture and absorb skincare products.

Take Cool Showers

Cool or lukewarm showers can help soothe the skin and remove sweat without causing excessive dryness.

Using hot water during warm weather makes the skin crack and lack moisture.

Avoid Touching Your Face Frequently

Touching the face with unwashed hands can transfer bacteria, dirt and oil, increasing the risk of acne and skin irritation.

Dirt can also cause the skin to be dull because of the risk to breaking out.

Pay Attention to Your Lips

The lips are also vulnerable to sun damage because they are exposed and need protection from UV rays.
