A 34-year-old South African woman, Vhahangwele Rashaka, has ignited widespread debate on social media after she proudly embraced her decision to remain childfree, describing it as one of the most fulfilling choices of her life as she approaches her 35th birthday.
Rashaka shared her journey online and highlighted two major milestones set for early August 2026.
She explained that August 1 will mark one year since she underwent a salpingectomy, a surgical procedure involving the removal of the fallopian tubes.
Notably, the date also coincides with International Childfree Day, which she says gives her decision even deeper meaning.
“1st August: International Childfree Day. I will be celebrating one year after getting my fallopian tubes surgically removed (salpingectomy),” she reflected.
She then pointed out that the following day will mark her 35th birthday, an age she associates with independence and clarity.
“2nd August: I will be turning 35 years old and childfree,” she added.
Rashaka Reflects Her Long-Held Dreams of Childfree Life
Moreover, Rashaka expressed satisfaction with how her life has turned out, noting that she now lives the future she once imagined as a teenager.
“I am living my wildest dreams. I am living the life I imagined for myself when I was an 18-year-old girl,” she wrote.
At the same time, she emphasized her freedom to make personal choices without outside influence.
“I am definitely my ancestors’ wildest dreams, a woman with options and the ability to choose for herself, not forced by conditions, culture, or pressure, but able to decide what is best for her,” she added.

Decision Sparks Debate on Personal Fulfilment
However, she acknowledged that her decision may not align with common expectations. Even so, she maintained that choosing herself remains her greatest achievement:
“This is important because I chose what is frowned upon most of the time,” she said.
“I chose me and me alone. I became selfish for my own happiness, and that is one great accomplishment,” she added.

Mixed Reactions Online
Meanwhile, her post has drawn strong reactions across social media platforms. On one hand, some users praised her confidence and independence.
“You know is so much satisfying to live In a country where women are able to chose themselves, I’m glad you did it for you sis, and for those who decide to have kids for them, not for men or the society, I’m so proud,” Khomotjo Wabo Lebo Seepe wrote.
On the other hand, Tasha Fiwesky shared a different personal experience regarding parenthood.
“I gave birth to my first and only (for now) at age 33. My goodness, lemme tell you something. I’ve never in my past thought having a child would feel this great I learnt how to change a diaper at the hospital mind you. I would get so annoyed when pple would ask me when I’m having one. But now! Ahaha! The fulfilment is beyond words can express. There are some people who are Not meant to have children,” she wrote.
As the discussion continues to unfold, it highlights a broader conversation about reproductive choices, personal freedom and the different ways people define fulfillment in modern society.
