Kenya Airways Cancels Return Flight After Tyre Burst on Landing

Kenya Airways has confirmed that one of its aircraft experienced a tyre burst after landing safely at Cape Town International Airport in South Africa on Tuesday, August 4.

The airline said all passengers and crew aboard Flight KQ784 were safely evacuated, but the return flight to Nairobi was cancelled as engineers worked to repair the aircraft.

In a customer update issued on Tuesday, Kenya Airways said Flight KQ784, which was operating from Nairobi to Cape Town, landed safely at around 3:30 p.m. local time before experiencing a tyre burst on landing.

The airline assured customers that its crew followed all safety procedures during the incident.

“Our crew acted in accordance with their safety training. All passengers and crew have safely disembarked and have been taken to the airport terminal,” Kenya Airways said.

Return Flight Cancelled

Following the incident, Kenya Airways announced the cancellation of Flight KQ785, the scheduled return service from Cape Town to Nairobi.

According to the airline, the aircraft will remain grounded while engineers and technical teams carry out the necessary repairs.

“As a result of this incident, we have cancelled the return flight KQ785 as our engineers and technical team work to get the aircraft fixed,” the airline stated.

Kenya Airways Apologises to Passengers

Kenya Airways apologised to affected passengers for the disruption and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.

The airline also praised its crew for handling the situation professionally, adding that passenger safety remains its highest priority.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this incident has caused. We thank our customers for their patience, cooperation and support, and our crew for their professionalism. The safety and well-being of our crew and guests is always our top priority,” the statement read.

Support for Affected Customers

Kenya Airways said it will contact affected passengers directly to provide further assistance.

The airline also advised customers requiring immediate help to reach its Customer Excellence team through its official support channels.
