Kenya Airways Gives Passengers Two Loyalty Choices With Flying Blue

KQ has announced that its passengers will accrue and utilize miles on KQ-operated flights while flying under the Flying Blue loyalty scheme managed by Air France, KLM, and other SkyTeam carriers.

With the program, travelers can earn miles by flying on Kenya Airways, 18 SkyTeam partner airlines, and shopping, hotel, and car rental.

As stated on Flying Blue’s own site, no fee is levied on any member.

Customers can enroll on the Flying Blue homepage by clicking “Join Now” and providing personal information.

The system then issues a membership number to the customer immediately.

How to Earn Miles for Kenya Airways

Miles are calculated based on ticket spend, excluding taxes and fees.

Explorer members, the entry tier, earn 4 Miles per Euro spent, while Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Ultimate members earn between 6 and 9 Miles per Euro, depending on status.

Members can credit miles for Kenya Airways flights if they ensure their Flying Blue number is provided at the time of booking.

“Our customers will have access to the worldwide Flying Blue network in addition to the Kenya Airways network,” said a spokesman for Kenya Airways. “By inputting your Flying Blue number every time you book KQ or SkyTeam flights, you’re earning miles right away for use in future travels.

More ways to earn

Members can not only earn miles by flying but also through KQ partner offers.

These include booking partner hotels, renting cars, and shopping through the Flying Blue Store.

As for Flying Blue, the airline stated that it remains active on KQ flights; however, Kenya Airways has established its own independent frequent flyer program, ‘Asante Rewards’.

Dual Loyalty Programs, Flying Blue and Asante Rewards

This means that the option exists to earn and spend Flying Blue miles or Asante Rewards points when flying on Kenya Airways-operated flights.

“With Asante Rewards and Flying Blue we are giving travelers choice,” said the airline’s spokesperson. “Travelers who fly frequently to Europe and other SkyTeam destinations will be better served by Flying Blue, while those traveling mainly to regional KQ destinations can compare with Asante Rewards.”

Aviation analysts claim this dual loyalty option allows KQ travelers greater flexibility.

“If there are two programmes then passengers will be able to select the best one for their particular journey,” said an aviation analyst. “Flying Blue is popular for reward flights, free upgrades, and lounge access around the alliance.”

According to Kenya Airways, loyalty programs are crucial to hold on to frequent fliers as worldwide demand rises.
