Kenya Airways Warns of Flight Disruptions After Bird Strike Incident

Kenya Airways has confirmed that flight KQ421 from Entebbe to Nairobi experienced a bird strike shortly after take-off on Saturday, May 24, 2026.
In a statement, the airline said the aircraft departed Entebbe at around 10:02 a.m. EAT before the crew decided to return to Entebbe International Airport as a safety precaution.
The plane landed safely at 10:41 a.m., and all passengers and crew disembarked without injury.
“Kenya Airways (KQ) confirms that on 24 May 2026, at around 10:02Hrs EAT, KQ421 on a scheduled flight from Entebbe to Nairobi, experienced a bird strike after take off. Upon following the safety procedures and informing our guests, our crew elected to return to Entebbe International Airport, landing safely at 10:41hrs local time. All passengers and crew onboard safely disembarked,” Kenya Airways said.
Aircraft Components Affected
Kenya Airways stated that the bird strike affected the aircraft’s steering components, prompting engineers and airport officials to begin repair works. The airline expects the aircraft to return to service later in the evening.
“The bird strike affected the aircraft steering components and our engineers and airport officials are working round the clock to return the aircraft back to service as soon as possible. We estimate the aircraft should be back to service by 20:00hrs later today,” reads part of the statement.

Kenya Airways Warns of Delays
KQ also warned that some scheduled flights may experience delays as the airline works to restore normal operations across its network.
The national carrier apologised for the inconvenience and reiterated that the safety of passengers and staff remains its top priority.

“As a result of this bird strike, some of our scheduled flights for today may experience some delays as we recover the network,” adds the statement.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to our guests and reassure them that their safety and that of our staff remains our number one priority. Our teams are in contact with affected guests and are working diligently to provide the necessary care and assistance for their comfort.”
