Kenya Kwanza, ODM to Form Coalition Ahead of 2027 Election

President William Ruto has announced that Kenya Kwanza and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have agreed to develop a joint manifesto and form a coalition to contest the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during the UDA-ODM Parliamentary Group meeting in Naivasha on Monday, Ruto said the decision followed consultations within the respective parties and political formations.

“After consultation within our respective parties and formations, Kenya Kwanza and the Orange Democratic Movement have today formally resolved to develop a joint manifesto for the next election and constitute a coalition to contest the 2027 General Election together,” Ruto said.

The two political formations are expected to begin discussions on the joint manifesto and the structure of the proposed coalition.

Joint Manifesto

According to Ruto, the joint manifesto will outline the shared agenda that the coalition seeks to present to Kenyans as it seeks to be on the ballot come 2027.

Their discussions are expected to focus on areas of common interest and the political framework that will be able to guide the coalition.

The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration and ODM, following the establishment of the broad-based government arrangement.

The two parties have been working together in government with leaders participating in joint engagements and consultations on matters of national importance.

Discussions In Both Parties

President Ruto said the decision to formalise the coalition came after they had discussions within the political parties and formations.

However details of the coalition such as roles and sharing positions of the two parties have not yet been fully disclosed.

This is taking place amid political parties positioning and aligning themselves in preparation for the coming 2027 general elections.
