Kenya Met Warns of Rainfall, Strong Winds and Temperatures Above 30°C This Week

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has forecast a mix of rainfall, strong winds, cool conditions, and high temperatures across different parts of the country between Tuesday, July 7, and Monday, July 13, 2026.
According to the weekly outlook, western, central, and parts of the coastal region are expected to receive rainfall, while northern and eastern Kenya will continue to experience hot weather.
Some counties will also experience strong winds that could disrupt normal activities.
“Rainfall is expected in parts of western, central, and coastal Kenya. Strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots are expected over several northern and coastal counties, while daytime temperatures above 30°C are likely in parts of northern and eastern Kenya,” KMD said in its weekly weather forecast
KMD Forecasts Rainfall in Western, Central, and Coastal Kenya
KMD says rainfall is likely in several counties across western, Rift Valley, central, and coastal Kenya.
The affected counties include Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga, Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Kericho, Nakuru, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Busia, Homa Bay, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Narok, Nyamira, Siaya, Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, and Tharaka-Nithi.
Rain is also expected in parts of Marsabit, Garissa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Mombasa, and the coastal areas of Tana River County.
Some areas, especially in western Kenya and the central highlands, are likely to receive moderate amounts of rainfall during the week.

Cool and Cloudy Conditions to Persist
Residents in parts of central Kenya, the Rift Valley, and a few northern counties should expect intermittent cool and cloudy conditions.
The forecast covers Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Machakos, Makueni, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Bomet, Marsabit, and Mandera counties.
The cloudy weather may keep daytime temperatures lower than usual in these regions.

Strong Winds Expected in Northern and Coastal Counties
KMD has warned of strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 metres per second) in several counties.
The winds are expected in Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Mombasa, Turkana, Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, Marsabit, Wajir, Tana River, and Kitui.
Strong winds may affect transport, marine activities, and weak structures. Residents in the affected areas are advised to take the necessary precautions.
Temperatures Above 30°C in Arid Regions
Despite the expected rainfall in some parts of the country, hot conditions will continue in northern and eastern Kenya.
Average daytime maximum temperatures of more than 30°C are expected in Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Tana River, Kilifi, and Lamu counties.
The hot weather is expected to persist throughout the forecast period.
The Kenya Meteorological Department urged residents to keep track of daily weather updates and take appropriate precautions depending on conditions in their areas.
