Kenya Power Confirms Customer Care X Account Hack, Urges Customers Not to Engage

Kenya Power has warned customers and members of the public against engaging with its customer care account on X after the account experienced unauthorised access.
In a customer alert issued on Saturday, October 3, 2026, Kenya Power said it was working to recover the affected account, @KenyaPower_Care.
“Our customer care account on X, KenyaPower_Care has experienced unauthorised access and the recovery process is currently underway,” Kenya power said.
The company urged customers not to respond to messages, engage with content or follow instructions posted through the account until further notice.
Kenya Power Warns Customers Over Customer Care Account
Kenya Power said its customer care account had experienced unauthorised access, prompting the company to begin a recovery process.
“Customers and members of the public are advised NOT TO ENGAGE with any content posted on the account,” Kenya Power said.

The company further cautioned the public against responding to messages sent through the account or taking any instructions issued from it.
The warning comes as the utility works to restore control of the customer care account.
In addition, Kenya Power has advised customers seeking assistance to use its other official communication channels while the recovery process continues.
Customers can reach the utility through its main X account, @KenyaPower, as well as its official Facebook, Instagram and TikTok platforms.
The company also directed customers to use the *977# USSD service and the myPower App to access its services.
The power utility said it would issue another update once the matter had been resolved.
Hacked Account Promotes HYPE Season 2 Cryptocurrency Allocation
This warning comes hours after Kenya Power’s official X account was hacked, with the compromised page publishing a post promoting a cryptocurrency allocation linked to HYPE Season 2.

The post announced that a “$HYPE Season 2 — allocation checker” was live, claiming eligible users could preview their tier and estimated allocation ahead of the claims opening.
“Claims open October 10 at 1:00 PM UTC,” the post stated, adding that users could preview their allocation before the official claims began.
The post further listed activities it claimed could count towards eligibility, including trading on Hyperliquid, HYPE staking, lending, vault and DEX exposure on recognised HyperEVM protocols, as well as consistent ecosystem participation.
