Kenyan Fan Puts Signed Harambee Stars Jersey Up for Ksh300K Auction

A Kenyan football fan has put up for auction a jersey signed by Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy and players from Kenya and Eritrea for Ksh300,000.

The jersey carries signatures from 10 players who featured in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Kenya and Eritrea at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Among those who signed the jersey are McCarthy, Shariff Musa, Rooney Onyango, Duke Abuya, Namrud Embaye, Esrom Yohannes and Filmon Gerezgiher.

The fan hopes to find a buyer willing to pay the Ksh300,000 asking price for the signed piece of football memorabilia.

Football Fans Debate Jersey’s Value

The auction has sparked mixed reactions online, with some fans viewing the jersey as a unique souvenir while others questioned whether the signatures can command such a price.

Some supporters also wondered what the funds raised from the auction would be used for.
“Let him keep it, its value will go up in the near future,” Kibunga commented.

Koffe also backed the idea of selling the jersey, saying the money could make a difference to the eventual seller while giving another fan a valuable sports souvenir.

“That is good. I hope he can get someone who can take it and keep it as a sport souvenir. Also hiyo 300k inaeza msukuma sana kwa life yake. A win-win deal 🤝,” Koffe said.

Others were less convinced by the asking price.
“The players play shit football. Their signatures have no value,” Ijumaa commented.

Domani, meanwhile, joked about what he would do with the jersey if he bought it.
“Hii nikinunua naiweka kama picha 😅,” he said.

Other reactions included Salano’s brief “CHIZI FRESH” and Matea’s “Mboka ni mboka😄.”

Harambee Stars Held to a Draw by Eritrea

The jersey became a piece of memorabilia from a match that ended in disappointment for the home side, as Kenya drew 1-1 with Eritrea in their opening Group D AFCON 2027 qualifier.

Eritrea took the lead in the 36th minute when Nahom Girmai, also known as Nahom Netabay, found the back of the net.

Kenya pushed for an equaliser after the break and eventually got its reward late in the match. Substitute Ben Stanley set up Ryan Ogam, who fired home in the 86th or 87th minute to rescue a point for McCarthy’s side.

The result extended Kenya’s wait for a victory over Eritrea. The two sides had previously met at the 2019 CECAFA Cup, where Eritrea won 4-1.

South Africa Starts With a Win

The other Group D match on Saturday saw South Africa beat Guinea 2-1 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

South Africa took the lead through defender Ime Okon in the 30th minute before Guinea equalised through Seydouba Cissé in the 69th minute.

Samukelo Kabini restored South Africa’s lead in the 77th minute to secure three points for the hosts. The result left South Africa at the top of Group D after the opening round of matches.

Kenya will travel to face Guinea on October 1, while Eritrea will host its next match in Cairo, Egypt, because its local stadiums do not currently meet CAF standards.

Kenya is already guaranteed a place at the 2027 AFCON tournament as one of the three co-hosts alongside Uganda and Tanzania, but the qualifiers provide competitive matches ahead of the tournament.
