The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced that Form Four leavers who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination and are interested in joining the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) will have an opportunity to apply for the September 2026 intake after completion of the ongoing placement to universities.

The placement agency said that students who repeated specific subjects in order to qualify for KMTC programmes will also be eligible to apply, with all applications set to be submitted online through the KUCCPS portal.

The announcement comes barely a month after KUCCPS completed placement of students to the Kenya Medical Training College for the March 2026 intake.

According to KUCCPS, the upcoming September intake application window will provide another opportunity for thousands of students seeking admission into health-related programmes offered by KMTC institutions across the country.

KUCCPS Opens 2026 Placement Cycle

The announcement comes as KUCCPS continues with the 2026 placement cycle after opening its online application system for universities, colleges and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

“The online application opened on April 7, 2026 and will run until May 6, 2026,” KUCCPS stated.

The application exercise targets the 2025 KCSE examination class as well as Form Four leavers from previous years.

KUCCPS noted that the 2025 KCSE class is eligible to apply for both degree and TVET programmes.

“Whereas applicants for degree programmes will join universities from September, those applying for TVET programmes will be able to report to their respective colleges starting May, since TVET placement is continuous,” the placement agency said.

In the 2025 KCSE examination, KUCCPS received results for 980,444 eligible candidates. Out of this number, 268,700 attained a mean grade of C+ and above, making them eligible for placement into degree programmes offered in 43 public and 31 private universities.

The remaining 711,744 candidates who scored between grade C plain and E qualify for placement in public colleges and other TVET institutions.

Available Capacities and Eligibility Requirements

KUCCPS said that, in addition to universities, 251 public TVET colleges, including 33 university TVET institutes, are available for student placement during the current cycle.

“The minimum requirement for application to degree programmes remains C+ (plus),” KUCCPS said.

For TVET programmes, individuals who sat KCSE examinations between 2000 and 2025 and obtained any grade from A to E are eligible to apply.

The agency further noted that students who attained C+ and above during the same period are also eligible to apply for degree programmes at the Open University of Kenya.

“As required by the Universities Act, 2012, placement of students into the institutions will be on merit; considering applicants’ listed priorities, KCSE performance and available capacities,” KUCCPS stated.

Universities and Colleges Submit Capacities

Last year, KUCCPS requested universities and colleges to submit courses and capacities for the 2026/2027 placement cycle.

The institutions were required to ensure that all programmes and capacities submitted had been approved by the relevant regulators, namely the Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).

According to KUCCPS, CUE approved a total of 322,396 capacities for degree programmes in universities.

Meanwhile, middle-level colleges have a combined capacity of 1,132,531 for placement into diploma, certificate, artisan and other TVET programmes.

Secondary Teacher Training Colleges have an additional capacity of 2,480 slots.

To support applicants during the placement exercise, KUCCPS said it will deploy officers to universities and TVET institutions across all counties.

“Details will be published on the KUCCPS website. Applicants can also be assisted at all Huduma Centres across the country,” the agency said.
