MCK CEO Reveals How Someone Invested Ksh 10 Million So That He Can Lose His Job
Share
The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) CEO, David Omwoyo, has revealed that unknown individuals spent over Ksh 10 million in a campaign aimed at ensuring his contract was not renewed.
He claimed that the money was allegedly used more than five years ago, suggesting that the individuals involved had no direct benefit from the effort.
“The following words are personal: 5 years ago, a man, or a group of them, invested more than Kshs 10 million that my contract as CEO may not be renewed,” Omwoyo said.
According to him, the actions were driven by what he described as attempts to celebrate his professional downfall rather than any personal gain.
The CEO further questioned the motivation behind such actions, saying it was unusual for people to invest in what he termed the “loss of a competitor” instead of focusing on their own success.
“They had nothing to gain. They simply were celebrating and investing in a loss. If you are doing a party, spending to celebrate the loss of a competitor and not your win. See your life. How does witchcraft begin. Celebrating the loss of a random aspirant,” he added.

He raised a question, telling people to celebrate their success, not someone else’s failure.
“How else do you explain sorcery, celebrating a stranger’s setback?” one of the audience asked.
The identities of those alleged to be involved in the plan remain unknown.
Omwoyo has held the CEO position at the MCK since 2014 and has dealt with several reforms aimed at improving media regulation and press freedom.
