Meet Frasha, the Musician Behind Raila Odinga’s ‘Jeshi ya Baba’ Amapiano Hit

Francis Amisi, popularly known as Frasha, is a Kenyan musician, businessman and former physiotherapist who rose to fame as a member of the celebrated hip-hop group P-Unit in the early 2000s.
His name has also featured in discussions surrounding political campaign music, including the Amapiano hit “Jeshi ya Baba,” associated with supporters of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Born and raised in Athi River, Machakos County, Frasha developed an interest in music while growing up.
He attended Machakos Boys High School, where he participated in football and competed in rap battles with fellow students.
Frasha’s Journey From Physiotherapy to Music
His passion for music continued into adulthood, eventually leading him to pursue a professional career as a recording and performing artiste.
Frasha became known to some of his fans and close associates as “Dakitare”, a nickname linked to his training and former career as a physiotherapist.
Despite his success in entertainment, the musician pursued a career in healthcare before fully committing to music.
He joined the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in 1999 and graduated in 2002 with a diploma in physiotherapy.

Fasha subsequently practised as a physiotherapist, including working at Aga Khan Hospital, while continuing to develop his music career.
In 2011, Frasha reportedly left his physiotherapy practice to concentrate on music as a business.
How Frasha Rose to Fame With P-Unit
Frasha’s breakthrough in the music industry came through P-Unit, a Kenyan hip-hop group comprising Frasha, Bon’eye and Gabu.
Frasha and Bon’eye, who were childhood friends, initially recorded songs together before joining forces with Gabu to establish the group.
P-Unit went on to become one of the prominent Kenyan music groups of the 2000s, earning a following through its distinctive sound, humour and energetic performances.
Some of the group’s best-known songs include Kare, Kushoto Kulia featuring Nonini, Si Lazima featuring Nonini, Gentleman featuring Sauti Sol, You Guy (Dat Dendai) featuring Collo, and Weka Weka.
In 2010, the group released the album Wagenge Hao, which featured several tracks that contributed to its popularity leading to them earning recognition at local music awards, including the Chaguo La Teeniez Awards and Kisima Music Awards.
Although , the group had succeeded really well during the days ,on February 23, 2023, Frasha announced his retirement from music, bringing to a close a career that had spanned more than two decades.

Before he exited music , in 2017, he sought a Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in Athi River, hoping to represent his home community. He did not win the election and reportedly contested the seat again in 2022.
Family Background
Frasha is married to Maggie Mbogo, and the couple have three children, identified as Shirleen, Esther and Emmanuel.
Although he has maintained a public career spanning music and politics, Frasha has also kept aspects of his family life relatively private.
