Ministry of Defence Announces Chairperson Vacancy for Military Veterans Advisory Committee

The Ministry of Defence has announced a vacancy for the position of Chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans.

According to the notice dated July 8 2026, qualified candidates are to submit their applications within 21 days from the day of the notice.

The recruitment is being conducted in accordance with Sections 10(1), 10(2)(a), 11(a), 11(c) and 12 of the Military Veterans Act, Cap 199A, Laws of Kenya.

The notice says the successful applicant will assume office with effect from August 4, 2026.

Qualifications

The Ministry said that only candidates who meet specific eligibility requirements will be considered for the position

Applicants must be retired general officers from either the former Armed Forces or the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

In addition, they must satisfy the integrity and leadership requirements outlined under Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

The notice further requires interested candidates to submit written applications containing their full personal identification details and career particulars.

Requirements

Applicants are also expected to provide reasons and motivation for seeking the position.

Applications should be addressed to the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Defence, P.O. Box 40668-00100, Ulinzi House, Lenana Road, Nairobi.

The ministry also indicated that physical copies of the applications may be delivered at the Ulinzi Gate located at the Ministry of Defence headquarters.

The Advisory Committee on Military Veterans is established under the Military Veterans Act and plays a role in matters concerning the welfare and interests of military veterans in Kenya.

Roles

The chairperson is expected to lead the committee in the execution of its mandate as provided by law.

The Ministry of Defence has encouraged eligible retired senior military officers who meet the constitutional and statutory requirements to apply before the expiry of the 21day application period.

The recruitment forms part of the ministry’s efforts to fill the leadership position ahead of the commencement of the new term in August 2026.
