The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has allowed students who missed the application deadline for university and college placement to apply for late consideration by submitting their requests via email.

The move offers relief to students who were unable to complete their course applications on time due to technical challenges, financial constraints, or a lack of information.

However, KUCCPS has clarified that submitting a late application does not automatically guarantee placement in a university or college.

Candidates wishing to apply late must send their email application to info@kuccps.ac.ke, giving details of their KCSE Index Number, year of KCSE examination, full names, phone number, and email address.

How Applicants Should Present Their Request

According to KUCCPS, the applicants in such cases should have a clear subject of the email, including “Request for Late Placement” to facilitate quick action on the request.

In addition to giving their Index Number, the year of the examination, their full name, and contacts, the applicants are supposed to give an explanation regarding why they did not make an application at the appropriate time.

Some of the reasons are difficulties in internet access, inability to pay school or application fees, delay in accessing academic documents, or any other unforeseen problem.

Applicants can also attach copies of their result slips or KCSE certificates, where possible.

The institution takes between three days to act on the requests.

However, this period may be affected by the number of requests made in the same period and the workload.

The applicants should know that even after sending the request, it does not mean that they will get placement because of the slots available.

Opportunity for Transferring After KUCCPS Placement

In case students are unhappy with the college or university where they have been placed, they need not worry because KUCCPS opens the inter-college/inter-programme transfer period afterwards.

In this period, students can file their transfer applications through the KUCCPS online student portal if they wish to transfer to a different institution or academic program.

Transfer applications are considered depending on the availability of spaces, meeting the minimum program requirements, and approval from the releasing and receiving institutions.

Alternative Entry Through the Open University of Kenya

Apart from the universities mentioned above, the KUCCPS has also listed down the Open University of Kenya (OUK) as an alternative route for qualified applicants who could have lost out on the mainstream placement process.

While the conventional placement process is rigid and strict in nature, the OUK provides an opportunity for interested students to undergo studies through flexible modes of study, such as blended and online learning programs.
